Or are you talking about Maryville. There was a time when a small group of people out of Maryville had a very large level of influence over the Repub party in Tennessee. They were Howard Baker backers early on, then Lamar. There was also a group of attorneys in Knoxville that had a lot of influence.

I was curious if you had lived in Maryville. We did for a while back in the '50s; the Alexander family went to the same church that we did according to my parents (have to say I don't remember myself). We knew the Proffitts and several other families; I lived across the hall from Fred one year at UT and ran across some others I knew from Maryville days. Lots of interesting people in Maryville. I grew up an AF brat, and Maryville was probably the place I liked most. If we hadn't been attached to middle TN, my parents would likely have retired to Maryville.

I'd bet Ukraine is in the process of figuring out how to deal with the minefields. They seem a lot more daunting than anything the Russians were hitting them with.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said early Saturday that Kyiv is concentrating several brigades for an offensive in the Bakhmut direction, taking advantage of Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin's “provocation.”

"Taking advantage of Prigozhin's provocation to disrupt the situation, the Kyiv regime is concentrating units of the 35th Marine Brigade and the 36th Mechanised Brigade of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) in Bakhmut tactical direction at the initial line for offensive actions,” the defense ministry said in a statement.

Russia says its forces are fighting back.
“The servicemen of the Yug Group of Forces are defeating the enemy with air and artillery strikes," it said.
