War in Ukraine

Probably the best analysis of what's happening with the Ukrainian offensive that's been presented. Nothing really surprising - just a very solid "this is what, and this is why clearly and concisely written". Even the critical analysis of Ukrainian command is what you'd expect of any country that had not planned to wage war on anybody or expected to have one forced on them.

A Sobering Analysis Of Ukraine's Counteroffensive From The Front

Not very encouraging.

Where are you getting this nonsense about Russia wanting to rebuild the Soviet Union?
Transnistria, South Ossetia, Azhbakia, Crimea, Donbas.

and then you have their roles in Armenia and Kazakhstan too. trying to make those governments dependent on Russia.

pretty clear they have Belarus on a short leash too.

Another gamechanger...

US buying decommissioned Hawk missiles from Taiwan for Ukraine – media

1. Why are they sending Hawk missile systems instead of Patriots? This is a 60+ year old system.

2. Why are they sending decommissioned weapons system?

3. Will 100 of these make a difference on an 1100 km front?

It's obvious that the US doesn't just hate Russians, but they hate Ukrainians if they are sending them into this offensive with no air support in flat steppe saturated with mines and a 60+ year old weapons system. The most wicked thing they could do by throwing away these lives instead of having Ukraine go to the negotiating table.
serious question for you. Would you prefer death or slavery? especially if that slavery is dictated by a third party?

You consistently rail against our system, but always reject the idea that others may have similarly strong stances about things you like. These people have reason to hate Russia, even before 2014.

You have even had to admit that Russia didn't have the support you and Russia thought they would. Its logical to say that lack of support translates pretty well into a people willing to fight against Russia long after a western nation may have given up.

I have been saying it from day 1 and you refuse to see the truth in it. This is like playing some small school, if you don't establish your dominance early, their spirit to fight will hold strong even if you maintain a lead through the entire game. If Russia had taken the fight out of Ukraine early, it would be an entirely different mindset over there, even if the results were the same. But instead Russia flubbed just about everything they could have, and while they are still behind, Ukraine is still in the fight.

and did you really expect two slavic nations to have an easy/quick war? That is something else I said early on, this was going to be long and bloody. Slavs hate each other and will go through hell to do it.

If that is the case, then why were they not brought out before now?

Again, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel giving them obsolete equipment that you and I both know will be like handing someone a knife going into a gun fight.
the Russians are bringing out equally old systems. they have been using t55s for months. The "republics" troops are armed with fricking Mosin Nagants, its not like Russia is arming their "allies" with the world's best equipment.

If it works it works. TNT from 60 years ago still blows up just fine.

Not very shocking either. They are struggling to use their new toys in the fashion that they were meant to be used by who designed them. We’ve all speculated at similar situations on the front. Large scale combined arms fighting is hard. We’ve trained on it for decades and equipped our military accordingly to be able to execute it.

They have untrained and incompetent leadership which will eventually lead to a breakdown in moral so they better figure it out quickly.

Motivated and dedicated men can take a lot but even the most highly motivated man will eventually lose faith after seeing his buddies lives get wasted with no progress.

That isn’t what was said at all hog. They are trained and competent that was in fact stated. They are not experienced and are getting a crash course in that now.

You obviously have reading comprehension problems or your blind support for Ukraine is clouding your judgement. The article clearly (in polite terms) states that the Ukrainian Sr command is incapable of fighting a combined arms battle, so that means either they are incompetent or untrained. If you can't do something even though you have the tools to do it there are only 2 reasons why.

Jeez. Weak sauce.

14.) Quality of Ukrainian officers and NCOs we met appears excellent and morale remains high. However, there are some force quality issues emerging with less able bodied and older men called up for service now.

Direct quote. Would you say “quality” is synonymous with incompetent?

They’re capable and trained. They have no experience applying the training and are getting that experience in real time. The ominous part of that quote is the quality could be dropping off.
