I don't think Putin is surprised at all by our response. I think he's shocked the rest of Europe jumped in on him as well. I think he thought they would leave him be for energy purposes. Oops. Czar Nicholas II's decision to jump into WW1, he and his family ended up being shot in a basement, which resulted in the Communist revolution with the Soviet so that is number 1. Napoleon and Hitler invading Russia are top 5's definitely, along with Lee's decision to invade the North. IF he winds up being deposed then it was a pretty big blunder but I don't think he will be so as of right now not even cracking the top 20.
