I don’t get this. I mean I completely understand staying out of it militarily, but we “should just let Russia take Ukraine” makes no sense. What year is this, 1939?
If Trump were truly compromised he would have been charged a long time ago. The IRS has audited him probably more than anyone else and couldn’t get him. They got Al Capone on tax evasion but can’t get Donald Trump? Think about that because it speaks volumes. You can say he’s an a-hole and a sleazeball, and you’d be correct. But one thing he seems to have going for him is that he hasn’t been compromised by foreign countries. There's an extensive body of evidence that illustrates that Trump is compromised with Russia. He's certainly not on our side.
The goal of sanctions isn’t regime change. It’s to make life hard for Russia (Putin and his cronies in particular).Do I understand correctly, then, that you're unaware of any instance in which sanctions have had the effect of so alienating the people of the sanctioned nation against their rulers that they overthrew them, but that you believe that the unprecedented magnitude of the current sanctions imposed on Russia may reasonably be hoped to achieve such an outcome?
yes, I am unaware and no I don't believe it will cause the people of Russia to rise up. I hope it does, but do not think it will. Nonetheless, if your position is that we do not punish bad behavior for fear that it might galvanize the people against the west - I say it's a risk we have to take. It's sanctions, war or nothing - do you have a viable alternative?
“Disinformation and utter hoaxes are now being aggressively spread as well. Both Rep. Kinzinger and Rep. Swalwell ratified and spread the story of the so-called "Ghost of Kyiv,” a Ukrainian fighter pilot said to have single-handedly shot down six Russian planes. Tales and memes commemorating his heroism viralized on social media, ultimately ratified by these members of Congress and other prominent voices. The problem? It is a complete hoax and scam, concocted through a combination of deep fake videos based on images from a popular video game. Yet to date, few who have spread this fraud have retracted it, while censorship-happy Big Tech corporations have permitted most of these fraudulent posts to remain without a disinformation label on it.”
