War in Ukraine

are you asking who pays for the gas that flows through the nord stream? Nobody right now. Letters of credit are being issued because banks wont process payments to pay for the oil. So right now, Russia isn't making jack sh*t from EU domiciled banks.

Look, I'm all for cutting off Russia completely - just don't conflate the drip of money they're (theoretically supposed to be making) off of Nord Stream as a way to make up for the rest of the tidal wave of sanctions in the other direction.

The Russian gas everyone is buying is purchased based on USD. Crashing the ruble in no way effects their net income from sold oil.

What, in the last 20 years or more, makes you trust those people? I don't need to trust them about Ukraine and Putin. I see what he's doing and know what he's said.
I was talking about Usmanov

Maybe I should’ve put “say” in quotation marks

Would you sing the same tune if another country seized Bezo's yacht because we bombed Syria?
Define influence. I am sure Bill Gates and other extremely wealthy people can get a word with the POTUS when they want. That too is influence. Hell our whole system of government is highly influenced by wealthy people and their donations.
1) We didn't go into their country and take it, it was here. They want to enjoy our benefits, they need to play by our rules, which is not invading other countries.

2. This invasion cannot stand. We're not going to physically fight it, but pretty much everything else is on the table.

What makes you think they invaded anything?

Also true. No doubt Gates benefits from our system.

Don't get up in arms when China starts seizing assets owned by Americans when "we don't play by their rules".

Yachts are replaceable. The human lives lost as a result of the war that these oligarchs are funding aren't.

This is a very bad take. Imagine if Germany seized Bezos yacht or Bill Gates airplane while they were in German territory because they didn’t agree with what was happening in Afghanistan. And then their response was “your yacht and airplane are replaceable. Afghans are being killed.”

I reserve the right to be a hypocrite whenever I damn well choose.

The EU council that has initiated sanctions against him has said that he has close ties to Putin and has been actively funding the conflict. Maybe they're just pulling that out of their rear end.

Can you link anything on that for me? All I’ve found is that they sanctioned him. Having a hard time finding any specifics.

If they have the paper trail, a judge signed off, and he has a right to a trial, I can be a lot warmer towards the actions of the EU.

But if they don’t, this is a really bad precedent

This isn't that.

There would almost certainly be a few fisticuffs, once the whiskey gets to flowin'.

I would be disappointed if there wasn't good booze and a short brawl. Of course this would need to be followed with LG getting a swirly and thrown off the back under a loud chorus of Rocky Top.

If he’s actively funding a conflict against a sovereign country, I don’t have a problem with it. Choices have consequences.

Define good booze. LG can drink seltzer beer with Luther.
