War in Ukraine

But isn't that a suicide mission? I mean... going through the exclusion zone? Isn't that a suicide/death match? And isn't that a recipe for a regional, if not continental, catastrophe? (Clutching pearls)
No one has claimed going through the exclusion zone is suicide. And radiation levels did increase but that's probably driven by the disruption of top soil caused by trucks driving over them. Nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things

Sneaky Russians
Ah yeah... of course. Them damn sneaky Russians in the Ukrainian exclusionary zone.

Probably got their bots and internet warriors located there to fix the 2022 midterms and 2024 POTUS elections there.

I cannot believe that Putin would risk human annihilation over a simple election.

It's not lethal to go in there. It's lethal to stay there too long. And not "die right now" lethal, more like slowly rot for the next 20 years. It's also an ecological disaster. The dust/dirt they stir up is radioactive and can spread to other areas. You are right that it is a catastrophe. Your boy doesn't care.

Oh, okay. That is news to me. I had no idea. Thanks

It's been a good day for you. Learning is fundamental. You also learned today, that the nuclear facility that had a total meltdown, isn't in use. Hell your boy @Pacer92 jumped right on board. Lol. Only minutes after claiming many people need to improve their critical thinking skills. You two should reflect on that.

I apologize for my outburst. I feared the worst case. Just so you know, i had a grandfather that was a nuke power plant inspector.

I am going to turn from current events and answer Rasputin's question. They want ALL the nuke plants and ALL the energy plants in general. They want to capture all the power grid and infrastructure. The Higher elevation of radiation coming from Chernobyl is reported to be about 27 times the average of Chernobyl, which is of course much higher than normal. It is reported this is from the tanks, trucks, and artillary he is marching across it. stirring up the dirt, which contains higher radiation.

Same difference. Same outcome. I'm just now getting to see the latest controversy of the day after work.
What you're seeing isn't a strategic mind at work. You're seeing a completely inept military rotted from years of corruption doing wildly irresponsible things to the people, animals, plants and future of a nation because that military's leader has spent the last two decades eliminating any influential voice other than his own within his own country. If you aren't starting to see it, you never will.

boom.

The other Chernobyl units operated for 20 years after the accident. It wasn't a death site.
Yes shut down in 2000. Two decades ago. What's really messed up is they let the other reactors keep going, despite several other emergencies for over a decade, bc they needed the power that badly. Crazy poor planning

Wild life is FLOURISHING at Chernobyl. It's something like 10 times the average radiation i think. You know what else is flourishing? GHOSTS. It's one of the hottest ghost hot spots in the world. no lie.

The workers (supposedly) had limits on the time they could spend there.

It is all about the Rads.Spending time at nuclear plants, one gets a yearly report on if one has received "too many x-rays". I was just a visitor a few times but @AM64 is our resident expert

The average radiation level is 0.4 mrem/hr. 10x that is 4 mrem/hr. About the equivalent from an international flight. A general emergency is 1,000 mrem/hr.

I suspect it probably becomes a problem when you have a line of tanks rolling through kicking up a bunch of radioactive soil, but either way, sure, it's a great idea to go f around in a freaking nuclear containment zone.

Attacking a nuke plant is also likely a PR move aimed at Germany. The Germans deactivated all their nuclear power plants to appease the environmentalists. When the reality that wind and solar could not power their nation, Germany turned to Russia for oil and gas to keep the nation in the 21st century.

This is another way to fan the panic porn about nuclear power to keep the demand up for Russkie oil and gas.

Turn off CNN...go to bed.

Nat geo took a crew to Chernobyl a while back wearing radiation suits and filmed the area. Some of the insects had odd mutations . Radiation levels were still off the charts.
Jeremy Clarkson and James May drove a Volkswagen and a Dacia through the exclusion zone in 2015 on an episode of Top Gear. They weren’t wearing anything special.

Those tanks are going to do a lot more damage than that radiation will. Like the tsunami at Fukushima that killed 18,000 people versus the nuclear accident that killed nobody. Or the evacuation that followed that did kill people.

Folks need to be desensitized to radiation. Low levels of radiation are not dangerous. These headlines are concerning, but still likely fear porn.
