War in Ukraine

With Chernobyl so close to the Russian and Belarusian border, it would seem that if the reports are true, that Putin would be putting his own people at risk.

I wonder WTF their plans are or their reason for being there?

Top Russian General is Killed by Ukrainian Sniper as Kyiv claims 9,000 of Putin’s troops have Died during invasion

A top Russian general has been killed amid bitter fighting in Ukraine in what represents a major blow to the Russian invasion.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky, who was the deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of Russia's Central Military District, died yesterday as Ukrainian defence forces repelled the Russian offensive.

His death has not yet been officially confirmed by Russia's Ministry of Defence, but was announced on social media by his colleague Sergey Chipilyov and was widely reported by several Russian and Ukrainian news outlets.

A military source confirmed that he was killed 'by a sniper', and suggested a funeral for the Major General - by far the most senior Russian figure to have died in the conflict thus far - will be held in Russia on Saturday.

Really appreciate the more thourough articles posted by some of you guys.

Man, is anyone asking the question as to why Chernobyl is being targeted? Is this just a random attack by a madman like Putin or is there something else behind this?

You all need to be better critical thinkers...

I won't claim to be an expert on foreign relations, so I'd love to hear your opinion. My guess is that P is pissed that this isn't going as planned, so taking out a massive power plant could be a desperation move to cripple large cities.

OK. Let's run with that. If that is the case, then he's destroying himself and everything he's trying to preserve.

Yeah, they can vote for who they want. I've never suggested otherwise.

I'm not suggesting that they voted for Trump but so what if they didn't like Hillary. They probably wouldn't vote for K'ma'la either or maybe they would. Maybe some of it is qualifications.

Hard to say really. No one in their right mind would venture to Chernobyl. Possibly hiding something.

Europe's biggest nuclear power plant is ON FIRE after being attacked by Russian tanks: 'Increased radiation levels' are detected after livestreamed footage showed explosions as heavy weapons targeted the facility in southern Ukraine

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the largest of its kind in Europe, was on fire in the early hours of Friday morning after an attack by Russian troops, the mayor of the nearby town of Energodar said.

A government official told The Associated Press elevated levels of radiation are being detected near the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information has not yet been publicly released. Plant spokesman Andriy Tuz told Ukrainian television that it is urgent to stop the fighting to put out the flames.

A live feed from the station showed flames at the site in the east of country, having earlier showed tanks firing at buildings - sparking fears of a radiation disaster in the nation currently under invasion by Russian forces.

Reports said there was 'shooting from all sides' at the site which has six nuclear reactors. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest of its kind in Europe, and accounts for about one quarter of Ukraine's power generation.

The reactor itself isn't on fire. The fire is taking place outside of the reactor in the control room area.

There's no way a fire like that could breach the containment building. Also, reactors like this are built to be autonomous so even if the control room was destroyed it would still be safe.

I don't think anybody really knows what's going on there now. I'm an expert on this... I watched the HBO show.
We have a few posters running around claiming fake news bc why would he attack it if it's on his boarder.
Really? You don't say? Whew... I was getting nervous for a minute or two.

He's attacking the actual nuclear power plant exists in the southern part of the country you rube. Chernobyl hasn't been active in decades.

I think some Russian soldiers were sent through the chernobyl exclusion zone because it was the quickest route to Kiev.
But isn't that a suicide mission? I mean... going through the exclusion zone? Isn't that a suicide/death match? And isn't that a recipe for a regional, if not continental, catastrophe? (Clutching pearls)
