I find this strange indeed. I like Russians as far as the Russian people I’ve known. I work with Russian nurses who sacrificed to become Americans for a reason.
I find it hard to admire a proven former kgb agent who undoubtably was good at this job and rose through the ranks on the necks of others.
I would also not discount those others necks were broken. Do you not think it strange that so many who speak against Vlad in Russia have disappeared or been found dead over the years? He regards himself and no other. Power is his god. Not a man to admire but another cautionary tale.

First, I misspoke, he was a negotiator at the UN, not NATO.

Second, this is not a question of NATO (or anyone else) advising Ukraine to "drag this out." They are going to do what they are going to do on their own terms. I daresay that if we were attacked and people were defending this country, you wouldn't call that dragging it out.
