Not really. That isn’t a dichotomy. Joe IS a weak dementia patient and I don’t want to see one US soldier in Ukraine. I’d love to see Germany economically slapped for kissing Putin’s ass on Nord 2 and I’d like to see us arm Ukraine to the teeth. Many in this thread are between a real rock and a hard place on this one. They want to believe Putin is doing this because Joe is a weak dementia patient, but they are also really against the US getting involved.

Three options for a US president:
(1) Do nothing to stop Putin
(2) Use non-military means to stop Putin (sanctions, sending Ukrainians aid, etc.)
(3) Stop Putin, by sending in the US military
Almost any US president would do #2. You can quibble with what Biden's said at press conferences, or the degree to which he's turned up this or that, but he's playing the cards the US has to play. Most of the piling on in this thread is mere tribal sniping.
And he very much appears to be using them. There is no reason to believe we won't sanction them (doesn't really work anyway) and continue to send them weapons, which we have been for years. No it's not being between a rock and a hard place. Biden has many tools at his disposal other than US troops to show strength and make it clear an invasion of Ukraine will come with consequences.

He said that a "minor incursion" would prompt discussion about what the response would be. That's far from giving them permission to do anything. He told them they could invade but that he might do something if they try to take all of Ukraine. That is not showing strength and resolve.

Doesn't that just tell Putin something he already knows? Of course there are going to be different responses depending on what Putin does.
I mean, he isn't laying awake with worry about a US response to this no matter what was said. Do you think there is something Biden could say that makes Putin back down?I'm sure that's got Putin laying awake at night with worry.

No US leader is going to get directly involved in this, and direct US involvement is really the only thing that would deter him from this kind of behavior.
...and if he did that, some of y'all in here would respond with "That is so weak. He isn't deterred by sanctions, he's only deterred by force" or something to that effect.POTUS could be clear that any incursion into Ukraine would be met with draconian sanctions. What Biden did at his PC was show how weak and indecisive he is.
