Could be complete BS or simply battle reports flow unevenly and/or Russians trying harder to establish air supremacy. Russian close air support is particularly vulnerable to all the Ukrainian MANPADs supplied by US/allies.

It's always baffled me how people retreat to gold during times of strife or market upheaval. As this situation demonstrates, if the world goes to pot, the whole idea of purchasing gold makes no sense. No one's going to honor the contracts. Delivery is impossible. Etc.

Naftali Bennett reportedly advised Zelensky to consider Russia's deal earlier this week.

"Bennett is basically telling us to surrender and we have no intention of doing that," the unnamed senior Ukrainian official told Axios. In the wake of the report, the Israeli Prime Minister's office issued a vehement denial of the claim.

According to Axios, Zelensky and his advisors were angry over the alleged recommendation from Bennett, which may have led to leaking the exchange to the press. Kiev says that Bennett had initiated the Tuesday call wherein the advice was given.

Now they are both backtracking or denying the claims. Who knows...

By Saturday, not only had Israel denied the report, but Ukraine's government itself is downplaying it, given there's likely concern that it could lead to unnecessary tensions between the two countries, also as Israel is increasingly looking like a possible mediator amid the war. But it remains the initial story was likely leaked for a reason.

They've been close to Saudi Arabia since the early 1970's for some reason. Probably a bit longer than that.

I cannot put my finger on why Israel would seem to be pivoting towards Russia in this instance, however.
