War in Ukraine

I am working from home because I can, it’s nice to spend time with the wife and kids and work. I also just got back from hawaii before Christmas but I only had to do one work related meeting then. I’m salaried so I make my own schedule except for some board of director type meetings which are set beforehand
While you do admin work, these useless and worthless peasants do the heavy lifting where the rubber meets the road...

I'm actually disappointed in you on this position you are taking, even though me and you don't see eye to eye on a lot of things. You are in the same category of persons as @allvol123. Your condescending attitude is problematic.

Maybe. Maybe not.

The $140 Billion Question: Can Russia Sell Its Huge Gold Pile?

(Bloomberg) -- Russia spent years building a giant stash of gold, an asset that central banks can turn to during a crisis. But any attempt to sell it will now be a challenge just when it’s needed most.

Bank of Russia expanded its gold reserves almost sixfold since the mid-2000s, creating the world’s fifth-biggest stockpile that’s valued at about $140 billion. It’s the type of asset it could sell to shore up the ruble, which has plunged as global economies isolate Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.

Doing so will be difficult. Sanctions forbid U.S., U.K. and European Union institutions from doing business with Russia’s central bank. Traders and banks are wary of buying the country’s bullion indirectly or using other currencies out of fear of reputational damage or falling foul of penalties. And senators in Washington want secondary sanctions on anyone buying or selling Russian gold.

“This is why they bought their gold, it was for a situation just like this,” said Fergal O’Connor, a lecturer at Cork University Business School. “But if no one will trade it with you, it doesn’t matter.”
I suspect Putin weighed this risk before he invaded. I bet he's going to default on debts in the west and pivot east toward countries that appear to be listening right now.

I'm so glad I have never had supervisor or anyone above me that displayed @Rickyvol77 level of condescension and disdain. He fits that typical sociopathic behavior that you would find in most cops.
First I’m an authoritarian now I am a sociopath? Somewhat hypocritical for a poster who ACTUALlY supports an autocrat fascist AND someone who suggested those same employees of mine should be executed a few weeks ago

I've seen his stuff. It's not going well for Ukraine but they are holding out much better than expected. My statements regarding this are still true. Russia is only able to take these areas by flattening them. They are getting resistance at every turn. Its not going well for Russia either. They do not have the well pulled military machine I would have expected.

That is the very latest one. What he shows is that it is going well for Russia. Not as well as they planned for and not pretty (probably because they were misled by bad intelligence initially and bad strategy) but they are capturing ground and moving forward, building supply lines, etc.

There is no question Russian military is not as fierce as perhaps first thought but there is also no question that the grind is inexorable and the outcome unlikely to be any different. He is predicting Kyiv to fall by end of April.

Yes, they are flattening it. That is why I am sad for the Ukrainians because they listened to the wrong voices and now they are the ones suffering for it.

It's not right, but it is so.

Saying that certain jobs are unskilled and believing that people are equal are two completely different things you are conflating to bolster a shaky at best argument.

Unskilled job simply means that the talent pool to fill that position is near infinite, you can hire virtually anyone off the street and they can complete the job assignments to varying degrees of success. A skilled job is one that requires specific skills or experience that a finite number of people have and are required to complete their tasks.
Exactly. It’s not rocket science. Well for most people

You don’t have the authority to tell me or anyone else what to do. And you never will. I don’t care that you are wrong about the CNAs. Call up the local temp agencies and have it out with them lol

As for my job, I could be fired tomorrow if the company chose that’s true but they would conduct a nationwide search over weeks to hire my replacement. Not a temp agency who will give us cheap unskilled labor
I'm being honest here and this isn't a swipe at you. But in my 30 years of working going all the way back to high school, I've not known one place that I worked at that had any issues filling in management spots. The problems usually came up trying to fill in spots for front line workers.

That is kinda what I think. Not something I've given deep thought or consideration, but some kind of agreement where some countries work together economically. China, Russia, or maybe other countries that in general dislike "the west".

I dont really understand the subthread going on here but Ras, based on Ricky's answer, I think you are stretching it a bit with your "power to the proletariat" speech (though I assume you are being facetious) ;)

Lol I do heavy lifting also and have in the past. I’m not calling anyone a peasant. I’m stating that it’s easier to replace unskilled workers with not much education or training needed than it is more complex and trained positions. Thus the skilled workers should be paid more. Donjos mad because he can’t understand that calling a busboy or janitor unskilled isn’t a “respect” thing or a slur it’s simply pointing that truth out. my condescending attitude towards posters like you or he is that your spout BS emotional drivel with no real clue of how things actually operate. Whether it be law enforcement, healthcare, the business world, the military or literally anything in real life

You do realize that even executives have a life outside their jobs and in most cases make their own schedule. Right?
If I was an executive like you claim I would find a much better use of my time during the day than Volnation.

How does it feel knowing not everyone wants to take your beloved vaccine? And how does it feel having an AD too scared to play Army in football.

The amount of people that meet the requirements to be a restaurant worker are vast. If they want to replace a server, host, or busboy what are the requirements needed? Be 15 or 16 years of age? You can take someone that's never done job, has no experience or education in that field, and train them in a few hours.

Now do that with a doctor, nurse, HVAC tech, or accountant. What are the requirements to get a job in those areas? Education and certification. A skilled job.

I don't think anyone is saying that a server, the job not the person, isn't important to a restaurant. Just that the job is easier to fill because there is no required education or certification required for them to be hired to do the job.
Exactly the point without the hurt feelz

That's what I can't seem to get some if these people to understand. What penalty will Russia pay if they default at this point? Does that close them off to foreign lending? LOL...

And more importantly, what happens if a default is called on Russia? What type of derivatives and credit default swap issues will that create in The West.

Lastly, do people not know history? Have any of these guys ever heard of Long Term Capital Management? I wonder what caused that debacle????

I'm not sure he even has to flatten Kiev. Modern cities aren't set up for sieges, most grocery stores only have a weeks worth of food. Once they exhaust the food supply, I don't see any way they hold out.

Lmao time to take your ADHD meds son so you can stick to one topic at a time .
I can post here whenever I want to. I don’t have a vaccine nor have I forced anyone to get one. Just like no one has forced YOU to get one. And no one is scared of whittle ole Army.

I think we have different assessments of listening to the right people. They are fighting because they don't want to be under the thumb of Putin. They chose to fight, Russia may very well win this battle but lose the war. They can capture ground but can they break the will of the people. That is the question, what comes next.

The more suffering Putin imposes on Ukraine the harder it will be for him to obtain his likely objectives.

If that is the case, then why are we still talking about this 40 mile Russian convoy that Pelosi was talking about? Why have they been able to sit comfortably where they are unmolested for the last week or two?

It's obvious you are watching CNN or MSNBC or even Fox to get this info. The very same people that have gaslighted us about COVID. But now, they are reliable sources of information when it comes to this.
Lol did you ever consider that ZeroHedge fake name, Alex Jones and FelonYoutube guy are even WORSE than our MSM which also have agendas

A guy named Gatling was no slacker either. If I had to chose one or the other to duck, I think today I'd prefer my odds against Browning's design than Gatling's - not great odds ether way.

I ‘m barely a novice in my knowledge of or use of firearms. But if there was a third machine gun designer of historical note perhaps a guy named Thompson would enter the discussion?

Weird. Guess that’s probably an indication of the companies you worked. I’ve worked at 3 of the top 5 employers in the region so I understand that even I had to interview with 25 or so other national candidates for my position for I was chosen from among 300 applicants and that’s with me having worked there 15 years prior. We don’t have problems filling either type of position except for the one position that were temporarily contracted and “created” for covid visitation (I.e. door greeters) which are basically high school kids that get paid a little more than Burger King does).

Not everybody saw Saddam as a threat. The fact of the matter is he protected religious ethnic groups in Iraq such as the Yazidis, Yarsanis, Mandeans, and Christians. When he was ousted from power those groups were no longer protected and many were persecuted. Along with many Muslims who fought against the extremist elements.

He also gassed the Kurds and nearly started WW3 but sure I guess he did keep the peace relatively well I will give him that. What happened to Iraq following his defeat is on the Iraqi people themselves. They were given a pretty good chance at a new start and a new chance at freedom. Time will tell how successful that will be but you are correct they have done a pretty poor job at protecting certain groups of people

I gotta say, THAT does kinda sound a bit pompous in tone. Might want to work on that so your argument has better placement.

If you arent seeing a 40 mile convoy in Russia, its because its not being reported. If you look outside of MSM, you will see it is still largely there - that means despite being a fat juicy target, nobody has really attacked it - what does that tell you?
