The season was absolutely a success, but the Arkansas loss cost us a chance to host a home playoff game which we probably would have won. Have to find a way to be better on the road, particularly better on the road at night. He's 4-7 in road night games at Tennessee.

I'd say both of your poll questions are true. Yes, the season was successful and yes, we should have done better. The Arkansas loss should not have happened, period and that probably would've resulted in us hosting round one in the playoffs. I can't say for certain if the end result would've been the same, but I don't think we would have been curb-stomped.

Beat Florida ✔️
Beat Bama ✔️
Beat UGA ❌
Make the CFP✔️

Obviously, there’s still work to be done. Ohio State showed us that. Things to consider… We lost 3 games. 1 of them was inexcusable. This HAS to be corrected going forward if we’re going to be a next level team. Losses 2 and 3 were to the Preseason #1 and 2 teams in the country. The games were in their stadiums, at night, where both teams were coming off of embarrassing losses. Not saying anyone needs to be satisfied, but both of those programs have been playing championship level football for years now with elite talent. UGA is now our mid 90’s Florida Gators and Ohio State humbled us the same way we were smacked by Nebraska and Penn State in high level bowl games.
What happens next will show what this staff is made of IMO. How do we get better from here? Everybody gets their ass kicked during the journey.

How do we get off the mat and refocus our attitude for 2025 and take it out on Syracuse to start the season? I’ve seen us have 2 very good seasons where we started by beating Syracuse. I’d start worrying if I were them.

I agree with most that 24 was successful and that success leads to concerns for '25. Will the coaching get better to end the sloppiness we see on the field ? Will Heupel learn how to prepare in off weeks to avoid losing games. Can they recruit better overall ?

Unfortunately, we have fans that would say 8-4, or worse is a successful season....
Happy to be back in a spot where 8-4 is a respectable floor, as opposed to throwing a party that we're going to the Music City Bowl. Even in Fulmer glory years, 8-4 seasons happen...happy that JH has us back on the upswing.

When you consider Tenn lost the tie breaker to go to the SECCG to the "standard" Georgia and Bama went 9-3 and you beat them and Florida and other teams "underperformed" including OSU, finishing ranked 7 before the bowl/playoffs is pretty freaking awesome.
Next year is going to be a massive challenge. If Heupel gets to 10 wins it will potentially be his best coaching year here.

Very successful. I thought we would lose 3-4 games in the regular season. I think we are now on good footing to be 8-4 to 10-2 each year.

4th year in after starting with very little? WTF do people want?
Not a good point. Our record in his second year was better, so that blows your argument out of the water.

But yes he inherited a mess no doubt. And yes 10-2 with wins against FL and AL is a success. But this perpetual 'rebuilding mode' is ridiculous. He'll be entering his 5th year with serious concerns that his offense is regressing, and we are not were we need to be from a personnel side

Honestly I will say both. I would have taken 10-2 with a loss in the first round of the playoff and called it a success before the season started. But if I had known how bad our schedule was going to be, how much the offense would struggle in SEC play, and just how bad we would look in the playoff, I would have said we should have done better.

You can’t call this season a failure or a bad result, but we should have beaten Arkansas, gone to the SEC Championship, and hosted a playoff game at minimum based on how the schedule actually played out.

I agree. Where is the development of the OL ? Does he have a recruit that started this year in that position ? Not a transfer player but a HS signee that they developed in his tenure?

All of these opinions are fine, but….IMO, the portal tells the story of your most recent season. Money-players want to play for winners/trending winners to continue to improve their stock in the NFL. I realize there are other factors in portal decisions (position depth, $, coach stability …) but no serious player wants to go to a team who has/is starting to trend down.

I wish we would turn down the rhetoric and enjoy the success in 2024. We went to the playoffs w/ a 10-2 record while many predicted 8-4 or 9-3.
We're probably going to have to get used to it. The days of being an elite team and having your last game of the season be a victory (2022) In a lesser bowl game are over. Every team except one that makes the playoffs, are going to end the year in bitter fashion. Most unreasonable fan bases are going to flip out because they should have won. Ours is on hyper drive.
