Not a good point. Our record in his second year was better, so that blows your argument out of the water.

But yes he inherited a mess no doubt. And yes 10-2 with wins against FL and AL is a success. But this perpetual 'rebuilding mode' is ridiculous. He'll be entering his 5th year with serious concerns that his offense is regressing, and we are not were we need to be from a personnel side
Good Lord. Talk about an over achieving season. That team featured a Sr QB and one of the best WRs ever to play at TN.

I wish we would turn down the rhetoric and enjoy the success in 2024. We went to the playoffs w/ a 10-2 record while many predicted 8-4 or 9-3.

You have to quantify HOW MANY are actually applying the over the top rhetoric. Lots of words repackaged and shoveled out there by guys that might fill up 2 rows in section L. That takes a lot of the sting out.

Those guys must be huge proponents of the”If you say it enough it must be true” maxim. The rest must point this out to the visitors around here. I do fear regulars might suffer health problems from excessive eye rolls.

We had a winning combination of great defense and running game. Had the passing game ever been effective who knows how good we could have been. I feel like we got outplayed at Arky, and outcoached at OSU. 10-3 isca very good season, but its hard to be satisfied after the embarrassing effort in the playoffs.

Wayyy beyond success.

The only playoff team to reach it with a Fr QB.

Absolute, smashing success. Hype is up there with Fulmer at this point and he's only 3 years in. It will take time and variance, but I believe the right team and situation will come together under him.

It doesn’t mean much anymore. Until there’s changes there’s rebuilds every year now.
Maybe things will level out after another year or two. Establish a core group and moving players who can't cut it at the end of the season would be limited to only a few players each year... maybe.

I voted successful but posting like it wasn’t.

We were 5 points in the Arky game from being in the SEC championship game fighting for a first round or settling for home field in the playoffs. That stings a lot because of how crummy that Arkansas team was. I don’t think I can ever forgive Heupel and the offense for that game. Nico and the OL looked like they were middle school kids.

We were also 14 points the other way from being 0-2 against down UF and Bama teams. However, since we won that doesn’t feel so terrifying.
Got an arkansas buddy at work. Every time I see him I ask him how the fudge did yall beat us. I was there and still can't comprehend how that game happened.

I say it was disappointing. I expected 10 wins in the regular season and to win a playoff game or two in the new format. Instead, we limped to 10 wins with a schedule that ended up being weak and when we got to the playoffs it was clear we were barely a top 25 team after all. Also, it's clear something is just not right with our offense and our defense didn't show up when we really needed it in big games. For whatever reason Banks decided not to blitz at all against Georgia and Ohio State. Was it a better year than Butch or Dooley or Pruitt gave us? Sure, but I have serious doubts about us actually contending for an SEC or national championship with the current staff.

Regular season was a success, B+. Loss to Arky only thing keeping it from being A+.

Postseason was a complete failure. No need to sugar coat it. We lost to a better team, but shouldn't have lost the way we did. Completely inexcusable.
Postseason a complete failure? Did you really expect the vols to win a true road game in their stadium against a top 5 caliber team? They may have had a shot if it was in Knoxville.

Lol, let's see, we were not only beaten in every phase of the game, we were absolutely massacred. The players were out played, the coaches were out coached. Road game or not, it was a failure. The only thing that wasn't a failure was our fan base showing up.

I didn't expect us to win, but I also didn't expect us to go down the way we did either. Had we lost a hard fought game by a touchdown I could have lived with that. We were totally embarrassed.

How is this even a question?

Ohio St is currently sitting at 2nd best odds to win the natty. We beat Florida and Alabama and made the playoffs.

You might have been embarrassed, most true Vol Fans are proud of them for what they've accomplished this season.I know I am.

But we're not talking about the regular season. Again, a 10 win regular season is nothing to be ashamed of. Take away the loss to Arky and it's an easy A+. But overall a very successful regular season.

Postseason, however was a miserable failure. No other way to describe it.

So you have no problem with saying that Oregon is an even morei miserable failure in the context of the CFP?

Well, their margin of loss was less than ours but pretty comparable game. But just like us, They had a successful regular season but get a failing grade for their postseason. Don't know know why this so hard to understand.
