Was Lofton really better than Redick?

Volfanbill, how can you even leave it out of the argument? Lofton had chemotherapy treatments before his senior season that required him to recover, he struggled early on that year as a direct result. After that, it is all conjecture on whether or not his last year would have been better, however any Tennessee fan will tell you that something wasn't right about him the first 10-12 games of the season.

If you are comparing stats objectively it looks pretty even, but I'm still not taking my orange glasses off. Besides, I'm a closet UNC fan and Reddick was a cry baby.

I will just say this, your last sentence carries far more weight than the rest of your sentences combined. It is futile to debate anything about Duke on here because so many have such a bias against them. Even if you take away both player's senior season, Redick was a far better pure shooter, an all around better athlete, and could do much more with the ball than Lofton ever dreamed.

Hard to say about Redick, but he was a much better defender than Lofton.

bill, your bias towards Duke is blatantly obvious as well.

I was never big on Redick though. But for anyone to watch both play and call Redick one dimensional and Lofton extra-ordinary is just comical. Both were slightly above average players, but Redick just had more tools. BPV may be right about defense, but I just thought both were so bad on D that it didn't really matter.

I would disagree. They were both great college basketball players and made so by the 3 point line.

I would simply say our definition of greatness might be different. That is very rare air for me.

However, the 3 point line did definitely make them who they were.

Are Rip Hamilton and Reggie Miller thought of any less because they use(d) tons of screens to get their shots?

Redick won almost every POY trophy available. That's pretty much collegiate greatness.

to some degree, yes. The truly awesome are the ones that can get their own or work within an offense and make it happen.

Very valid point, but I think the senior class was weak and no underclassmen get the media hype for a POY trophy, with Durant being an exception to the rule..

I hated Miller but he was a killer in crunch time, and one of the best clutch shooters of all time. He did it very differently than Jordan but both were very good when taking the last shot.

He had a very mediocre Duke team ranked atop the charts for quite a while that season.

Morrison was an underclassman and was hyped like nobody's business for being white, doing the pornstache and playing some awfully pathetic competition.

don't disagree at all, but Jordan could take that last shot or find an open dude because the other team had to double him. Reggie didn't have that.

Then if that's the case Lofton would be better on the offensive end.
not so. Redick could create his shot because he was tall enough with a quick hammer that people had to faceguard him. Then he went by them and drew fouls or pulled up. The FT disaparity between the two is very telling.

SHUT UP! I hated Redick!!!!

Honestly though I would take JJ over Lofton if anything because of his size.

I'm a Duke fan and he's my least favorite Duke player ever, save the current center.

Redick was a better player hands down. I guess if Duke is a bunch of "awkward white boys" they get the job done. If someone from any other school besides TN/duke were asked I'm sure they wouldn't know or remember Lofton.

Way off topic... but my wife's cousin is a big time jeweler in the Jax, FL area and is friends with Christian Laettner and his wife. The cousin said all he does is sit around and smoke weed all the time. I don't know why but I just found that really funny.

lol. Zoubek is so worthless, I don't really care. McRoberts or Paulus probably win the least favorite player award for me. Paulus has a good stroke, so its' likely McRoberts.

McRoberts makes the list too. He's neck and neck with Redick. I don't really have anyone else that I dislike similarly, although I'm admittedly not a Hurley guy either.

Tough for me to see the Laettner and Wojo thing. Wojo was generally an overachiever and Laettner freaking won.

Generally people don't hate losers, which is why I hated those teams (Laettner, Hill, Hill, Hurley, Davis and Parks)

I was only 10 at the time but I still remember the names.
