Eric Ainge stating recently that Riley struggled with learning the protections got me to thinking. How on earth was he ever going to play last season if he is currently struggling with protections?
Prior to last season, at the open scrimmage which I attended, I thought it was strange that Riley participated in the qb drills, but his scrimmage time was limited. The other qbs including Dobbs played way more. Then he suffered the mysterious leg injury before Dobbs was inserted at qb. I don't believe there was ever an injury. I think it was made up to protect him. This stuff happens all the time in sports.
I am thankful that coach jones had the good sense to recruit Josh a Dobbs because there were probably some red flags about Riley from the beginning. Perhaps it was because he played at a very small school in nc. I don't know....
But I never understood the hype as he was a 3 star prospect. It's not like he was considered a top guy coming out of high school. Good luck to Riley and I hope he finds happiness and whatever he is looking for.

To look at him, you see a large framed kid with a good arm, sorta like Philip Rivers. So, that is why there was hype about him. His potential!!

The reason he was only a 3* is probably because he played in a smaller school conference and supposedly not at the highest high school competition.

I believe the part that Ainge said about Ferg thinking the job should be handed to him off pure skill. Thing is the school he's from in NC is not some small school, they are rivals with Independence in Charlotte, NC. Football is a big thing at that school and it probably got to his head at an early age, and no one was there to bring him back down to earth.

How is the smallest qb large framed like Rivers? I guess Dobbs and Worley are big Ben sized. Good arm supposedly. He played against good competition at a good sized school. He was a 3 star for a reason. Some just chose to overhype him due to a lot of factors.
