WASH OG Nate Kalepo

I think he could get there. Could definitely add 25 lbs of good weight by Aug. He also is the better prospect and played guard and center. Could easily slide over to C in 2025. Kid held is own against Michigan and Texas.
Not sure I agree. But to be honest, I'm not sure if the coaches will even pursue another OL. They might be satisfied getting Heard, then just playing Karic and/or Lampley at LG.

If there’s a guard with multiple years left they like they’ll definitely pursue but they won’t take a body just to take one. Even if you get Farmer from UF, Lampley/Karic still the option that has played in games more. Dont think you see anything before the spring window tho unless someone comes available from one of these schools losing a coach but idk who that would be

I still don't think we'll see as much talent in the Spring window. I think we missed our shot with a couple of kids this cycle. And I think there are a couple of kids still out there that would make us better, but for whatever reason, we won't pursue them.

And any more players we get means pushing someone else into the Spring window to make numbers work.

Apparently our coaching staff doesn’t share your opinions.

They definitely missed on some portal OL but who would you have wanted them to get and why?

I was hoping they would go after Chase Bisontis, but he ended up withdrawing and returning to TAMU. Then I was hoping we'd pursue Cayden Green, but he went to Mizzou, which I guess is close to home for him. I was kind of interested in the Pounders kid from Memphis, but he went with Mississippi State. The Busey kid from Jacksonville State, I was curious if he could slide to LG. He went to West VA. I did really want Pounds, but he went with Ole Miss. That's some of the OL I thought could possibly help us. There were a cople of more, but their names slip my mind. And there were some at other positions, players I saw as playmakers, that I thought we should have pursued. Last season, we lacked true playmakers in the LBs and secondary. Our playmakers on defense were mostly the edges, Pearce and Baron. And our playmakers on offense were mostly the RBs. We need more guys, on both sides of the ball, that just go out there and make plays.

The other kid is smaller but it shouldn't be too difficult for him to drink porkchop shakes all spring and summer to gain weight. Plus he is a freshman all-american so he got talent and 3 years left. Either kid would be an upgrade tho.

This guy had a terrible game vs michigan. Missed on almost all of his kickout blocks. Maybe he just had a bad game. That is just my only time i noticed the guy in the 2 or 3 washington games i watched this year.

Probably won't see many lines as tough as Michigan's was this year. Even Bama had issues against them. Latham for Bama is a pretty much a lock for the first round in this upcoming draft and he got blown up a couple times, including the last play of the game where he almost ended up in his QBs lap.

I feel like the worry circle should migrate to this thread now.

At this point another OL is really about depth and not a need. I know we missed on some portal guys, but with Heard onboard it feels like we plugged all of our gaps now. We can be picky now and go after true difference makers if any are still out there like Downs. In other words I think they have done a pretty decent job in the portal. We did t sign 20 kids, but didn’t need 20

I mostly agree…but with the way the continue to actively pursue IOLs I get the sense they aren’t confident in the overall state of our IOL

Left Guard is a need honestly
It is possible the staff wants to get through Spring ball to assess the current room to define our level of need and therefore our establishment of max value to offer at this and most rooms. It SEEMS to me that holding on to some big bucks for the May portal after you can establish a priority of needs on the field would be a smart play. Lack of progress and injury is what it is.

Some positions have higher potential for improvement through growth and development. IOL I would think would be high on that list and we have added a bunch of young bucks in the last cycle or two as we were coming out from under the NCAA hammer threat.

We just spent money on a much lower risk high end guy in Heard on the outside. He has a lower risk, but is still a risk. I still don't think using stars as a ceiling of ability is supported by draft days, the final analysis, but more for probability of high end production. Our staff is not blindly throwing darts at the 3 star pool and late breaking genetics is for sure in play for the big guys on both sides of the ball. We don't need to spend money to match what we WILL have in this room for the fall. I am HOPING the fact a group of our guys not getting nudged to the portal, like the DB room, means we still have some of them in play and we might better use our bucks elsewhere. That's my prayer and I am sticking to it.

My concern with that approach is that we're talking an OL here. One big thing with the OL is reps and timing. Getting comfortable as a unit takes time especially with our fast pace of play. I'd have to think that we'd want to grab an OL guy now so he has both spring and fall to get the offense down and get adjusted. I recall something along those line being discussed between Staes and Castles I think. If it's a LB or DB, I don't know that it's that big a deal. For someone on the offensive side of the ball, I'd want those guys here for the spring unless they're coming in as a depth piece. OG is a need IMO.

I hear ya, but if our staff thinks we have internal solutions that have been in the development cycle that can attain equal production and are willing to go through spring with money in hand to validate, then I am not going to get in line at the bridge in the near term. A no-brainer upgrade at market price is a different story. That is also based on evalution also and I am good.

The balance of filling KNOWN needs at positions vs adding game changers regardless of room is the name of the game I guess in this NIL and portal driven world. When is spending money to only incrementally improve a room the right thing to do? Timing as well. Bet those keep some analysts busy full time, and I am not expecting a call to get added to CJH's staff.

Mentioned in the Z thread that I think we could have the best OL in the SEC as-is, but have to admit that adding Kalepo would make it feel like an all-star team. Anyone know his PFF grade?
