Why is USC so horrible?

I thought Lane Kiffin was supposed to be an amazing recruiter. Volnation couldn't stop talking about that.

He recruits just fine, it's coaching them worth a damn when they get there that he has trouble with.

I live in LA and even the USC fans are rooting against Kiffin. He has lost his dream job and will be pumping gas in no time.
