Wasn't Tennessee listed as the best job

Gundy was 2011 coach of the year and Strong was asked to interview at both Auburn and Arkansas. That isn't close to bottom feeding. Now if we get neither and settle for Smart we are definitely bottom feeding.

that's exactly what's fix'n to happen.

Hart has already said he wants someone with HC experience, so relax.

Petrino would not be that bad in my opinion. Lets remember, we are not a pastor search committee, we are wanting a football coach. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. A man is still a human , even if he is a football coach. If you know what I mean. How many of YOU have done similar things in your life. Only kept them quiet !!!!

It wasn't only Petrino's mistress... he lied to the AD about the whole mess surrounding the motorcycle accident which also involved her. It was also about Petrino having AU pay his mistress a $20,000 bonus, in addition to her salary. His mistress may not have gotten him fired in and of itself, but lying to his AD did.

available? I believe it was from a writer who blogs for ESPN. If that is true are we truly bottom fishing again? I thought money wasn't going to be an issue. BTW Jimmy Sexton is the worst thing to happen to UT, I believe he is a Finebaum.:banghead2:

what's Your name?

Why he even went after Gruden was a joke. He wasn't going to come to ut! He did that to appease us. Now we're screwed! I'm so over it.

The head coach at TN is a great job and plenty of national pundits identified it as the best one available. But Dave Hart clearly doesn't know what he's doing. Look at Arkansas. They said at the outset they wanted the best and they made offers to Gruden and Petersen and Patterson. They got turned down several times, but they finally got a guy who would say yes, and he happens to be a young proven winner who has taken Wisconsin to 3 stragiht Rose Bowls. Not too shabby. On the other hand, you've got Dave Hart who didn't want to fire Dooley until he absolutely had to, sat around for two weeks afterward while the boosters built up the Jon Gruden thing, which he couldn't (or wouldn't) close. Then he starts a search by interviewing second tier candidates like Gundy and Strong, completely bypassing the first tier. And now that he can't find a coach amongst the second tier, what is he going to do? Go down another level? Arkansas started at the top and found someone near the top. Looks like Hart started at the middle and will end up hiring someone well below it.

Doesn't mean a coach has to come here. Best open job is an opinion. A lot people say since we have to get most of our players out of state makes the UT job not elite.

You can have the best product to sell in the marketplace, but if you have the worst salesmen trying to sell it, your business will fail.

What is with the media outsourcing their work to amateurs? Before long Bleacher Report will have just as much credibility as ESPN...

[And we are the best program with an opening...which is why we are taking our time and being more selective.[/QUOTE]

All we have to do is wait until mid-January and then we will be the best (and only) program with an opening.

People see Tennessee as a gravy job. Not true. Tennessee is a pressure packed situation and probably one of the most stressful conferences in America. Limited in state talent to recruit and a fan base that is well............ Also, superior teams and superior coaches in a conference that demands only the best. You are expected to win every game and go to a top notch bowl every year. Win a national championship at least every now and then. Something for any coach to thnk about. Not many would want the pressure of the SEC.

I agree with almost everything except this no in-state talent problem. Why do we have kids that go to Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss State, USCw, Notre Dame, etc,.
The coaches we have had here purposefully went out of state and didn't try to develop relationships with HS coaches and HS programs in their backyard. Never understood that.
GO VOLS!

If you want to know why Tennessee isn't the best job just look at our schedule. We may be the best job as far as tradition, facilities, etc but most coaches look at that schedule. They see Bama, Florida, Georgia, SC, and LSU and they think Rutgers, UConn, and Syracuse is much easier to handle especially if I can get the same money which they usually do. 8 and 4 record at Louisville is a great season. Two or three of those at Tennessee will get you on the hot seat.

Don't bother trying to reason with them. People like to stick with the geography = athletic ability theory. Luckily my kids were born out of state when I was in the Air Force. This means they'll be much more athletic than poor little TN-born and raised me.
