the worst think we could have done was to lobby to play Alabama every year...you do realize that take alot of pressure away from most other team in our division..only 1 other team has to play them..instead of some years 2 teams..

I think a Lot of people would agree with John Adams. I have said this before. When you treat Fulmer in the manner he was treated, it's not a good place to coach. I, like the next guy, thought it was time for him to go. But their is a classy way to do it. Phil and his family were dragged to the curb, beat, kicked and spit on. When you are a Tennessee native, student, and long time coach and get treated that way, Who in their right ****ing mind would want this job?
Johnny Majors got the same treatment and both of them were TN born and bred and great players at the school to boot. Then Dooley comes in and get treated like crap trying to turn around the ship. It makes me wonder if Kiffin saw the writing on the wall and that made his jump from ship that much easier.

Our fan base is one of the best in the country when things are going well but when they are not it turns into lord of the flies around here. What coach in his right mind walks into that knowing there is no easy/quick fix? No coach is going to come in here and turn it around in less than 3 and EVERYTIME we boot a guy the clock starts over. next coach is going to need 3 years unless he keeps the staff here intact. We hire a big name guy and that wont happen.

We are not a team that can just reload. We flat out do not have the instate talent to do it. There are schools with worse instate that do better but a lot of them have something else going for them. I have said it before and will say it again kids that fit the Demographic of football players don't want anything to do with East TN. It is not a comfortable place to live if you fit that bill and I am talking from direct first hand experience. If the team is winning it is great and kids will come anyway but if the team is not then it becomes a really hard sell.

Another thing that hurts UT badly that does not get talked about much is Geography. The 3 major Cities not named Knoxville all border at least 1 other state in the case of Memphis and Chattanooga you are in cities that are culturally closer to the states they border than the state they are in. Chattanooga you will see just as many UGA and Bama fans as UT fans so in essence we are outnumbered. Memphis well its Memphis and most of the D1 football talent in state comes from the area between Nashville and Memphis.

Honestly, I feel Tennessee has fallen into a boat that teams like Miami, Michigan, Penn St and Nebraska have seem to be in. While traditional they're "top notch" schools. Over the years they've slide down the list behind the new flashier teams like Oregon, Boise St and TCU and its really hurt them.
