We’ve found our offense..

I loved the way Keon was zoned in today. Both freshman were able to easily make it to the bucket all night. The high tempo definitely plays to both of their strengths. And I'd much rather play towards their strengths than others. We've already allowed our guards to shoot enough sub par 20% games from 3 and have had enough games where we fail to get anything going inside.

We've forced the halfcourt offense. But for this team, high tempo works well.
Unleash the Baby Krakens (Johnson and Springer)! No more Mr. Nice Guys.

That would be an honorary triple double. He earned the double double all in his own, no honorary needed. But, I get what you mean. His defense was impressive.

Confusing earlier post was confusing. Either the final box score credited JJJ with an additional rebound to reach 10 or the sentence in that earlier post with the “without” led me astray. I’m a C- student in grammar, so I dunno. Honorary triple double works for me.

“And the team won without any points from Fulkerson and a double double from JJJ.”

It seems somebody else was a C- student in grammar as well. I would’ve been confused if I hadn’t known JJJ had a double double and I had a C+ in reading comprehension.

Barnes CLEARLY said he has wanted to run the uptempo offense all year but you don’t just go helter skelter (what a disaster that would be). Even KJ said they ran against Kentucky UNDER CONTROL which he said was the key. Running uptempo is a little more complicated than it looks especially when great athletes like JS and KJ are doing it. I’ll trust CRB because (this is just an education guess) he knows far more about how and when to push uptempo than I do. We tried against Ole Miss but that 1-3-1 messed us up. Hopefully we’ll see it run successfully like it was in Rupp for the remainder of the season!

Yes. TN wouldn’t have won many of their games with 30+ turnovers. At least some of the low scoring games that were lost were still within reach.

Springer and Keon both have struggled with handles and turnovers. But have showed flashes. Springer has Elite drive and passing ability. Keon is just an athletic sparkplug. I understand early in the season acclimating them to team ball, but I really hope Barnes tries to push the O instead of settling into his half court slow Offense.

Needs to join plavisic in the cheering line

Yep. Fulky hasn't done a dang thing to help Tennessee win games. Never mind that he is/was on the Wooden Award list. Everyone's Defense has been geared to stopping Fulkerson up to now. The PROBLEM has been poor ball handling/passing in the half court and not enough screens being set to free up shooters/drivers. Such Fickle Fans. Sounds like the drivel I heard last year about Fulky. SMDH.

So you think he will win the award?

Getting pushed around like a middle schooler, misses easy shots, not rebounding, not playing hard, threads on here wanting to know what’s wrong with him, and the list goes on yet you want to defend him? Now tell me about fickle fans

VJ as a starter has been so much more effective than VJ off the bench. Santi is a great option off the bench as well. Jo and Nkamhou round out the 8 man rotation. Fulky hopefully found his groove again tonight.

Which he’s been 1 out of 14 games since we started SEC play.
Means he’s due, man! That’s statistics.

To be serious, he’s a better shooter than he had been, should be about a 35-40% 3 point shooter based on talent and about 40% from 2 due to meh shot selection

At the 10-11 minute mark to go in the 2nd half, Keon and Jaden relentlessly attacked the basket and repeatedly scored and/or got fouled. The pushing the ball up court and letting these 2 go at it needs to continue and be our bread and butter.
Going through Pons and Fulkerson just hasn’t been cutting it. Vitale said at one point they’ll have to get Fulkerson back in the game to have a chance, won’t surprise me if he has the worst +/- today. He’s just not a PTP’er. But Springer and Johnson are. Once teams start focusing on stopping them and there drives, and them drawing the D with their drives, then VJ and Santi start getting open 3’s again. Pons and Fulky will get easier baskets in the paint again.
Also, Johnson is the one we need bringing it up the floor against pressure and presses, not Vescovi. His quickness and ability to get by defenders is elite
Let's be real here. USC is short on talent and was missing two of their better players. When we face teams with athletes who can match us, can we still run the offense we've "found"? Can we depend on Fulky to get us 12 and 8 consistently. Can we count on Bailey's outside shooting? Can we get Pons healthy enough to be that rim protector again? Still a lot of questions surrounding this team. What we saw was encouraging, but let's not treat this bunch like the greats of the UCLA golden years. Right now I'd settle for consistency and a win over UK.

I thought Pons looked healthier against USC, hopefully keeps improving.

One thing I will say in defense of the win is that we were missing JJJ who is one of our best players also.

I do definitely have questions about running against athletic teams. I think that’s what happened against LSU

What happened against LSU was we didn’t have anybody hit 7 of 10 from 3’s and we couldn’t keep them from driving the lane.

Yes, this game needs to be another pump the brakes moment. Not an, “our problems are solved,” one. I’ll give our boys credit. They didn’t crumble win SC was shooting lights out early in the 1st.

SC was without two starters on an otherwise poor team. Even in a convincing win SC still showed the same weaknesses are there. Everyone with a lick of sense knows Bailey won’t get that hot again. In fact, had JJJ been healthy we’d never seen that performance as Bailey would be on the bench.

Stat lines are interesting. Looking at them you’d think Pons played a great game. 10 and 9. But, if you watched the game you’d know that wasn’t the case.

ON played a good bit but just didn’t seem to have an impact at all.
