We Beat Bama in 2014

You want schedules to be more even? Write to Butch Jones c/o the UT athletics department and say:

"Dear Coach,

Please man up and support the nine-game conference schedule.

Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]"

It would be nice if more than one coach would try and do what is best for the conference. The presidents will likely agree to it sooner or later, but if a few coaches come out in favor of it, it might grease the wheels.

Alabama's President voted against the 9 game schedule and voted for the current structure to stay in place being one of the 10 votes that kept the system in place. there were 4 teams to "man up" as you put it, but it wasn't Alabama.

Weren't the 9 game schedule vote and the 10-4 keep the current structure vote two different votes?

I'm fairly certain the 4 referred to in the 10-4 vote were the teams like LSU, A&M, and South Carolina (I'm blanking on the last school, maybe a Miss. school?)...which were voting this time for an 8 game schedule with no permanent cross-division rivalries. (none of those schools wanted a 9 game schedule)

I think those were two different votes.

there was one vote and it was whether to change the schedule or not.. the vote was 10-4 in order to keep it at 8 games and not change a thing. if that vote had went in favor of 9 games then they would have addressed the other parts of changing up the schedule, but it didn't pass.

May I ask that you provide some sort of link please?

I'm just really think that I have seen that the 10-4 vote was more about "okay the schedule's already staying at 8, are we keeping cross-division rivalries or doing away with them."

Although, I could also have been mistaken on their being a 9 conference game vote. (After reading something) it looks like now that there probably wasn't even enough support on the matter to call a vote on it, so they very well might not have voted on that part.

I'll say this is seriousness, without any snide intended:

You may be right. But I doubt there will be a marked improvement. I think UT is a year away on defense. The talent that is there is green, and inexperience negates talent on defense more than it does on offense.

I think UT has a great chance to take a big step forward on offense in 2014. I think that step will be smaller on defense. But 2015 should be a different story.

As Coach John Majors use to say, we dont have to be the best team except for that particular Saturday.
I think An upset versus Bama could happen for several reasons. First of all, it would not at all be expected. Bama is in something of a transition year with a new coordinator and quarterback.
Bama will not be the super power of the last five years and to expect that level of achievement would be ridiculous. I expect Bama to look a little better than Georgia has been, moving forward. The western division is absolutely brutal at the moment, so I expect all of those teams to be one, two, and three loss teams. Butch Jones has shown signs that his teams are going to be tough at Neyland.....see the Carolina and Georgia games from last season, not to mention that we should have beaten bowl bound Vandy.
Bama has played near perfect football the last four times we have teed it up. At some point, you would expect them to not bring their A game against the Vols. They've brutalized us so much, why should they?
As ridiculous as it sounds, the stars and planets may align for an epic upset in Knoxville. It would take Bama playing a miserable game, but who knows?

if we are healthy and start dobbs and have all of are starters on offense playing.

If you play them 20 times you might. They haven't lost many lately, and only at the hands of T A&M and AU. I don't see your roster coming anywhere close to those two. Maybe in a couple of years. Don't set the bar too high too soon.

That's great and all but it's really pretty much the same thing that has been said the past few years.

Anything is possible, but that works both ways. Meaning Arkansas St. could beat us.

I have no idea where you are getting this, but you are off base. There were two different issues considered: The nine game schedule, which was defeated, and the on-going structure of an eight game schedule. I have not been able to find a break down of the votes for that, if there was even a vote at all. But given multiple reports, along with my own conversation with Judy Bonner, I can say with all the certainty I can muster that she supported the nine game schedule.

The 10-4 vote you are referring to was taken after the nine game schedule was already squashed and had to do with permanent cross-division opponents in an eight game schedule. 10 presidents voted to keep the permanent opponents and 4 voted to go to 2 rotating cross-division games. Judy Bonner was one of the ten.

Haha, think everyone here would love to see us beat Bama. Realistically, we are gonna need some serious help. I suppose you could predict this every year and sooner or later it is bound to happen. So rock on OP, if you say it enough then maybe folks will begin to believe you. :good!:

I'm taking this as an attempt at humor, or wishful thinking on the part of a Dawg fan.

Maybe a little humor but no wishful thinking. I think CBJ is a good hire, just wonder if there aren't better DCs out there. We have a HC who has been much too loyal to DCs in the past. McGarity put a stop to it. If they don't produce, they're gone. You'd better hope that Hamilton has the same philosophy.:hi:

uhh, you must have been lost in the dog pound the last 2 years or at least treating a case of uh ga, as hamilton has been gone from tennessee as AD since 2012.

We beat bama this year! After all the punishment they usually get from a hard schedule they will battle through somehow.....yet will be worn down by the time they come to Neyland.:clapping:

sarcasm

The more Vol fans talk up a win versus Bama (especially in May), the more Vol fans will cry in October. I'd try to make the game a little closer before thinking about winning.
