We Better See Improvement Tonight

I don't understand that we "better see improvement" tonight. What does that prove? We can beat down Citadel?

We aren't going to know anything else about this team till after the B4A. If we beat UTEP solidly, take down either Xavier or Iowa, then play Kansas well, it proves that this team is on the uptick and preparing for a solid season. Lose two games, it shows this team is probably not going to do much damage.

Beating Citadel and Tennessee State won't prove much. We can look for some certain things, but I doubt we are going to get all the answers this week.

Also, UT just played Saturday night. Not a lot room to improve in 48 hours.

The sluggish starts are certainly avoidable against inferior opponents. Our offensive stagnancy in the first half could also see improvement. Free throw shooting was much better. Rebounding was abysmal. There are definitely facets that can be monitored on a game by game basis.

Can we get a list of what you're looking for?

Never understood why people get so high after one win and so low after one loss. It is the same around here after a Grizzlies and/or Memphis win or loss. This isn't football. We don't have to go out and win every game.

Sure, it was disappointing to lose to Xavier. Sure, it may seem like a repeat from past years, but unless someone has the crystal ball, then no one knows how it will end. Early season basketball is just about winning games. At the end of the year, no one will care if you beat USC-Upstate by 9 or by 39. It was a win.

Improve, develop, and continue to win games. If we don't make the dance at the end of the year, then complain. But, at least give this team a chance to play and improve. I know this is what message boards are for, but geez, let the season play out.

No, no, no. What a basketball team looks like in the middle of November is 100% a sign of how good that team will be the rest of the season! Duh!

This team has not gotten any better. It is pretty obvious. Maybe they will as the season goes on. But i remember saying alot of the same things last year and everyone said, "Your stupid! This team is going to the tourney!" and I was all like, "Eh, not really. They can't shoot, can't make free throws and have no chemistry."

Yeah, its early, but it feels pretty much the same. Cuonzo hasnt really given us anything else to go on.

Hopefully everyone didn't say "your stupid".

Just wait til we lose. In your mind, it'll happen at UTEP, which is a little over a week away. I mean, would it kill you to wait until a week has passed before starting a Fire Cuonzo thread when we're 2-1?

You know if you do, it's going to get bumped with every single game we win...especially in the NCAA tournament. It will probably be locked in a month. Ask the guy that made the last one.

Since you think we are 2/1 it certainly explains why you are pulling for this coach.

Yeah shooting 81% from the line isn't an improvement. 90% or bust. See these are the things that don't make any sense. Also 39% from 3 is solid.

It's not so much the complaining that bothers me. No one is immune from criticism. It's the posters who only show up to do it. They are AWOL after wins, unless it's to predictably whine that we should have won by 100. Nine times out of ten, they give away their lack of knowledge about the game and how it works in their first post, and then tirelessly continue their tirade of ignorance.

I'm all for fair criticism, but those calling for Martin's head one game into his third season, and calling the season a failure already, deserve whatever ridicule comes their way. They are incapable of being impressed despite anything Martin can do from this point. Their minds are made up that he can't be successful.

This coming from a guy that gives his fair share of criticisms. I actually think I succeeded in explaining the difference between supporting Martin and lauding him blindly. The fact is ZERO posters are claiming he's a great coach, unlike what the people who only show up after losses want you to believe. Just because the reasonable people aren't calling for his head doesn't mean they're turning a blind eye to his faults.

I would've settled for 50% against Xavier. We would have won the game.

You said the team hasn't gotten any better...how is going from 38% to 81% not improvement? Our worst freethrow shooter shot 7/8!

I think this means we agree? Fair criticisms IMO. :)
