I agree, it's a down year for the SEC.

Oh, I've been spelunking all day so haven't had access to any news. What seed did the Gators get? Figured you would know.

Cheap shot. I apologize. Please disregard.

SOS + RPI should = 6 or 7

At the end of the day, SOS and RPI did not mean anything.

Let's get us a 50 SOS, and win 25+ games, if that is the case.

Yeah, it's a tough situation, but I firmly believe that if the guys play like we did against Auburn/Bama, that we would at least have a fighting chance. I know the competition is alot tougher, but I'm hoping we can do it. Go Vols!

I dont think we got screwed, we got what we deserved. This team is not very good.

I agree with this. It is the inconsistent play that really frustrated me all season. I almost hope they get beaten in the first round, the loss to Louisville last year was embarrassing enough and I cannot even imagine what Pitt would do to my beloved Vols.

2-6 vs. the top 50 is what killed us. The committee really looked hard at that this year and we just didn't measure up. We played some good teams we just didn't beat enough of them.

I completely agree that we should just start freaking scheduling easier and just rack up the wins. There is no way we get left out of the tourney IMO even with an easy schedule, think about it. Take away the scheduled games vs. gonzaga, @temple, @kansas, memphis. Subtract 4 losses add 4 wins and we would be 25-8, and still have a pretty decent SOS and RPI with wins over Sienna, Georgetown, and Marquette, and a few other decent teams. With a 25-8 record and making it to the SEC Championship game, and beating the teams that we would i believe we DEFINETELY would have had a much higher seed than a 9. So, if we are going to get screwed like this by the committee for going out and playing tough OOC games then screw it. Play cupcake games for OOC and just play the preseason tourney like we did this year, and maybe keep Memphis or something, but none of this 7 or 8 "tough" pre-conference games.

I agree with an earlier post, if we beat OK St. and somehow manage to beat Pitt, we go to the Final Dour, but that is a huge hypothetical.

Bruce thought this team was going to be a lot better than this version to be fair. He was looking at a team that seemingly couldn't be worse than a 4 seed with Duke and Ramar not dismissed and as disappointing as they were and our current players improving with another year.

We were on the verge of a 1 seed last year and you do that by winning the top 50 games. 6-2, which was possible early on, makes us a much stronger seed. We blew a win against Memphis, we killed ourselves at the line against Gonzaga the second time, and Temple was a game we had scheduled as a relative gimme.

But that's if we play hypotheticals. The simple truth is that we have regressed as the season has gone on and we find ourselves clinging to early season success and hopefully that same potential can be untapped by some impossible miracle.

To be fair, he conjured something up in 2004 as a 12 seed, but I have no idea what his UWM team looked like that year.

I agree about the scheduling. Obviously SOS has nothing to do with the seedings. I thought TN was destined for a 4 or 5 seed with a championship win and a 6 or 7 with a loss, but a freakin 9 seed? They are in the same region as the number 1 overall seed, correct? So this means the selection committee views them as the worst of the 9 seeds? Is this correct? I am still mad about this hosing TN took today. Absolutely pitiful that they put them as a 9 seed. I guess if they had won they wouldn't have been any higher than a 7. It's pretty bad when Miss State is the SEC tournament champion with 20 plus wins and is a 13 seed too.

I don't think I was succinct enough earlier. The scheduling works both ways. We got penalized for losing, which is obvious. LSU didn't have a good non-conference resume and it killed them. Along with losing on Saturday.

In past years we have won our non-conference tests and been rewarded for it. If this is a down year for us with that close of margins against some of the best competition in the country I say keep up the stiff OOC.

It helps to play a tough out of conference schedule, but you actually have to win some of those tough games for the tough schedule to pan out for you. Anyone referencing Georgetown as a tough game should really take a hard look at Georgetown's results for the season. They were terrible. The big problem for UT this season was that not only did they stack up a lot of losses, but they played in a very poor conference. The SEC was very bad this year, and the seedings of its teams in the NCAA tournament reflect that fact.

Oh I know we weren't successful in the OOC, but we did have some games Pearl's other teams would have certainly won. In our down year we had close losses and good wins against solid competition.

In the big picture, if this is just a down year, you have to keep up the scheduling because more often than not UT will take advantage.

Screwed would have to be an understatement. Our games go from Tough to Tougher...this is bad

We have a shot against Pitt. About the same chance against Kentucky. We would have to play excellent. But we have a shot.
