Just like everytime a beautiful women goes by, you think I have a shot and then.....

8-4! Outback Bowl!

:thud:

Tennesseeduke

Who on here would complain about and 8-4 record and the Outback Bowl at this point in time?

I think Volnation would go on a three day bender for that kind of news.

Great point. I think UT is going to surprise a lot of people this year. I'm not saying we are going to kick anyones ass this year, but we'll be far from a push over.

We want be a push over other teams want just be able to show up and win and agree with the Florida game I do think we will win that one we owe them and last year we had a healthy Florida team on the ropes we let it slip through our fingers in the swamp this year its at home . but as far as the tittle thread I also think we are one of the under ranked teams I beleave in the nation

If we go 6-6 or better this year, then Butch will have us playing for a NC or at least an SECC when these freshmen are seniors; and he's had enough time recruit 3 more classes of top talent.
With that said, I think Butch can get it done. The proof is the pudding as they say. I'm extremely hopeful we will see a TN team give 100% on every play. That will be when we have finally turned the corner IMO.

Old joevols wanted to get rid of Fulmer in the early 2000s. Worked out great, huh?

We will definitely have more play makers this year, and I don't see us regressing any at any of the linebacker or defensive back positions. On offense, we have greatly increased our potential to make big plays with the addition of Malone, Pearson, and Hurd. Worley may not be an all-SEC caliber Quarter-back, but he was good enough to come within a few inches of leading us leading us to back to back wins against two top ten teams. He tends to make good decisions, and he has more talent than people give him credit for.

I think that if that the great unknown for this team is our O-line and D-line due to the lack of experience. If our line play exceeds expectations, then I believe we will shock some people this year.

Agree about Worley. He may not be the SEC elite, but he is definitely one of this teams strengths. If he hadn't have gotten hurt I believe we would have been playing in a bowl game last year. There was a serious drop off in execution when he got hurt.

Actually I wasn't for getting rid of Fulmer when we did. I had my doubts about his ability to turn the ship around, but I thought he deserved more time.

I was 100% for the hiring of Butch Jones. I love everything he has done so far. I also think this team can go 6-6 or 7-5, but I won't be calling for his head with less; unless something surprising happens and they play 1/2 speed like Dooley's teams. I don't think it's possible for a team not to give their all for Butch Jones and company. Hope I'm right.

I think you are wrong... who gave Palardy a chance last year? He was finally given the confidence that he needed by a new coaching staff. Not only does the kickers have a newly found confidence,, but the whole team is turning into WINNERS...

Just like that.

I sure hope the Vols are underated because the projected finish for the Vols in many preseason polls is next to last in the SEC once again.
Go get em Vols

A TON of teams are over-inflated this year... We're absolutely primed for plenty of upsets. According to analysts, Florida is going to be a world beater this year, along with USCe, Georgia, Bama, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, even Mizzou to an extent. Some of these teams are gonna get let down and wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of our opponents get let down by us like SC and almost Georgia did last year.

I keep reading all of this crap about how bad we are going to be. 5-7, 4-8, 3-9 at best. We were two bad plays from being 7-5 last year and I think this team is much better than last year.

Every talking head you see thinks we are going to really suck and Mizzou and Ole Miss are going to be 9-3 or 10-2 territory.

I can't wait to prove them all wrong.

actually we were about one fumble, two bad calls by the refs, and one bad QB switch from winning 8 games last year...

You my friend are exactly correct. If we were Auburn last year we win those games. The fact is we didn't and I think those days are going to be behind us. No team can have the bad luck that we have had for as long as we have forever.

At this point everything is speculation. Everyone loves to make their own predictions, and people tend to go with the trend. Every year somebody surprises and somebody will disappoint. USC a few years back is a good example.

Duke last year was another.

You have totally disregarded the lack of depth and experience on this team overall if you think that, barring significant injuries on half-a-dozen teams, we'll go 9-3 or 10-2.

I agree. Tennessee with some lucky breaks (that usually happen during a football game) will be much better than expected.

Where did I say that? Ole Miss and Mizzou are projected to be 9-3/10-2.

I fully expect TN to be 6-6 worst case and 7-5 best case.

I couldn't agree more. The thing about this year are the unknown quantities. The positives are a WR corps that finally looks like they deserve to suit up in orange. Justin Worley has improved a ton in practice and while Lane is putting up 3-6 yards consistently and Hurd is breaking bad everything except our WR corps, secondary and to a certain extend Worley are unknown quantities.

I mean what do we know about an OL with no returning starters that has faced a DL with no returning starters in the spring and fall?

I have said all year 6-6 to maybe 7-5 are the most likely scenarios for the regular season given the information at hand and our schedule. Could we win 8 or 9? Anything is possible but there is no legitimate way to predict that until after we see this squad perform against someone other than themselves. Both the OL and DL are big questions for me. If Worley can be effective and our WRs play lights out that will take some of the pressure off the OL we could shock some people. If not it could be a long year if our OL doesn't perform to an SEC standard. THAT is my biggest concern by far.

OL & DL will determine the wins.. This conference has always been about line play

Do you mean the lines in which we are replacing EVERY starter? Perhaps why most rightly believe thus will be a tough year. But we are getting ready for a run IMO...

It's always interesting to see all the talking heads change their stories after the seasons start and proof them wrong year, after year, after year, after year. Go Vols!
