We lost when Phillips didn’t take the dunk

Yeah, we can blame Juian Phillips for last night's loss. But we also need to blame Vescovi for missing a damn free throw

This team disappoints me with how inconsistent it is.

You just got to have players that can hit their FT's, make shots and have high IQ

How many times have we seen Nkahmoua throw a dumb pass or drop an easy catch? Vescovi has dropped off so bad this season, even some of his shots are a little crazy... remember the last shot he took against Kentucky? Unwarranted

Tennessee needs to get bigs that produce, not just guys that are big. They also HAVE to get players that can score. One of the big problems with Tennessee for years is their inconsistency in scoring, I'm not talking about streaky players.

As of this moment, this team has a sweet 16 ceiling if they draw the correct matchups. As you saw last night, we can lose to anyone when we can't make shots

If I'm Barnes, I'm hitting the transfer portal hard next season
And for leaving the three point shooter. A 2 only tied. A three was the only thing that would win. Really boneheaded decision.

Fortunately for us, you're not Barnes.

Phillips should have dunked it, no question. But can’t just point the finger at him. Our guards were outplayed all night. James was a no show on offense, and our defense we rely upon didn’t really bother Vandy as they outshot their FG average % especially at the 3 pt line.

Give Stackhouse some credit as well. They played inspired from the jump, made some unlikely shots and were more aggressive than us offensively which got them to the line more often. We actually bailed them out on 2 fouls, (one on Zeigler in 1st half and one on Awaka on that 3 pointer late in 2nd).

I actually liked our half court tempo in first half. Game slowed a bit in the 2nd half and I think their zone stalled us somewhat as well. We puckered up in the end, no doubt about it. Will see what sort of resolve this group has. Barnes has no regular rotation which I think contributes to some of our inconsistencies. Missouri is a high scoring perimeter oriented team. Will be interesting how Barnes approaches this one. If James is out it lessens our chances to play small ball.

Agreed on pretty much all points. Yes, Phillips made a freshman mistake. A senior leader, 4 year starter, and probably our best player and FT shooter had an easy chance to clean up the frosh’s mess, win us the game, and couldn’t do it. The lack of senior production in big moments has really been a disappointment this season. None of them have stepped up and been the alpha this team so desperately needs. There’s still a month for someone to do it, but I won’t fault anyone who thinks it won’t happen at this point.
Plavsic should be the alpha. He should be getting 16-18 shots per game

Lack of leadership is hurting this team. Plus we simply don’t have great shooters and lack athleticism, Phillips being the exception. TN doesn’t get to the foul line enough & it’s not the officiating. We had three to four ugly airballs last night - Vescovi /JJJ. Neither of them are playing as well as last season.

TN doesn’t have a “go to” guy who can attack the rim. I was hopeful ZZ would be that guy, but his shot is often blocked or he turns it over. He’s shown flashes but just not consistent.

Awaka looked good, but Barnes pulled him in the final four minutes for two horrible plays: bricked a layup then fouled immediately on the other end of the floor. Hopefully that is just a freshman mistake(s) at an in opportune time.

I think this team is fatigued physically and mentally. They beat Auburn but have struggled to close games, again lack of leadership and quality shooters who can attack or put the game away.

I don’t think this team can play well enough to win three to four consecutive games in March, forget six. Hope I’m wrong! GO VOLS!
Awake didn't foul, it was a terrible call. He never touched the Vandi kid.

Ok, from where I was sitting it appeared to be contact. Regardless, Barnes went back to ON since he has more experience.

I missed it, but that foul was discussed on a group text I am on. At the very least, it was agreed that they let more egregious contact go on at least 20 other shots and then call that foul.

Barnes gave him an earful regarding both sides of the court. Barnes was as animated as I’ve seen throughout the game. He was livid a couple times at Awaka and ON but really got onto Phillips after the game.
