lol as good as we are doing in OL recruiting Montrell is still crying.

and stop comparing Austin and Rexroad together. their offer lists are not close.

How is it crying? As you said, as well as they are doing in OL recruiting, it's exactly why you dont take guys like that at this point in time.

Richardson is the MUST GET in this class. Not only do you get the best in-state prospect, you beat out Saban for him. That would be huge for the future.

No question. Richardson is hands down the #1 overall priority in this class. I'd probably put down Clear as the #2 overall priority in this class.

C'mon guys...stars don't matter. Just look at Vandy and Kentucky. They're doing well.

Or we could look at Ga Tech who was second in the nation in rushing last year. Between 2004-2008, they signed 12 2* OL's, 3 3* OL's, and 2 4* OL's.

Or maybe Ole Miss and Arkansas who were #1 and #2 in total O vs the SEC last year.

Stars are matter... but they are not the end all and especially not for OL's.

Ga Tech plays in the ACC. That cancels out any comparison between Tennessee and them. Tennessee would win at least 9 games a year if they played an ACC schedule. You dont need elite talent to win at the highest level in the ACC. Hell didn't Georgia beat them last year?

And I'm sorry but striving to be Ole Miss or Arkansas isn't exactly a goal I'd be shooting for. #1 or #2 in total O is impressive but neither are anything more than middle of the road SEC programs.

The first battle is everyone being on the same page (including the fans) that the ultimate goal should be to reach LSU, Florida, Alabama level again. Now I understand it is going to be a process, probably a long process if it can even be done, but that is where this program should be striving to reach.

We need Clear at TE.. I mean who would be our go-to guy at TE if we don't get someone good in this class?

We have 2 realistic Guards ahead of him on our board imo. Walsh is an unlikely pull and West won't be easy.

That is worrisome then. Yeah both are longshots I'd say. West will end up at Kentucky I bet when all is said and done. I really hope they dont have Donovan Clark high on their list. I dont see any way Clark can play tackle at this level. I know some schools are recruiting him as a guard as opposed to a tackle. Who knows.

I remember how long it seemed to take LSU to get back to respectability. I hope it don't take us that long.

Yea, I'm looking through UTs offer list and I see some guys we may have a shot with but I'm not sure any are better than Austin.

Donovan Clark
Tony Posada- tough pull especially if UF offers.
Quincy McKinney- i guess he might could turn into a Guard.
Spencer Region- is a nutcase and isn't looking at us.
we really want Thomas O'Reilly but he is firm to Auburn.
J.D. Jones- said we offered him at camp but Hubbs said we didn't. i hope we didn't.

I think we will get B.Downs also. I agree we can try Clear at TE 1st, if he grows out of the position move him to OL. Win/Win either way. I agree with Montrel on Richardson & Clear being the #1 & 2 targets by our staff.

GT's running game would be effective in any conference including the SEC.

I didn't say I was shooting for those two. Leave the point for what it is and deal with it there. Those are two teams that don't draw alot of 4-5* OL talent. Yet in spite of that, they had very, very strong offenses.

Recruiting services AND offer lists are the least predictive of the success of OL's. The difference between HS and college football is greatest for OL's in every way- mentally, physically, and emotionally.

The first battle is everyone being on the same page (including the fans) that the ultimate goal should be to reach LSU, Florida, Alabama level again. Now I understand it is going to be a process, probably a long process if it can even be done, but that is where this program should be striving to reach.
I wouldn't even include LSU. The SEC is fast becoming a two horse race and I'm not even certain about post-Tebow UF.

I agree that's the goal and don't even by that it is necessarily that long of a process. The key is never going to be winning the Rivals recruiting title though. Especially with linemen right now, UT needs guys with the kind of talent and attitude that Smith and Hiestand can turn into gold.

Stars and offer sheets are far more meaningful for DB's, RB's, WR's, QB's, LB's, and DE's.

If UGA struggles this year, is it possible DeBell and/or Dantzler decommit and look around? Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I kind of think it's worth holding those "second choice" spots for later in the season just to be sure. I mean, why settle for a guy you're not as high on right now? There's still plenty of recruiting season to go and unless the staff is sold on the fact that their absolutely underrated diamonds in the rough, why fill up all the schollys now? JMO

With all the talk on o-linemen, where do we stand on d-linemen? Who are the DTs we are really chasing after right now and have a shot with? Any info would be appreciated.

Little to no chance on DeBell.

Dantzler, absolutely 0% chance.

I agree. I'm from Dalton and I know Watts personally and I'm 100% sure he is all uga and has been since wayyyy before he committed.

50% of the 2009 1st round draft picks for Offensive Lineman were rated a 2* by Rivals, 3 out of 6, and the #2 pick was a 2*.

I believe I read that more players with 3 stars actually have developed into NFL players and won more honors....that would be a good project for somebody that cares more than I do...I think it's funny how our armchair coaches get so worked up over the stars...I like 4 and 5 stars myself, but I am amazed by our fans questioning coaches who actually see the players, evaluate their potential physically and character wise and get an idea of their work ethic and that can look at film and evaluate it and not just a highlight reel like the fans see. Working with them in camps should give the coaches a good idea of how they take coaching etc. .....but our posters critique their every move based on stars! Amazing! Rivals or Scout know more than a coach that has actually seen a player play or at a camp....I don't think so.

That's a skewed stat though. There are a whole lot more 3 star guys every year than 5 star guys.

This is one of the most faulty arguments there is out there.

You do realize there are only about 300 total 4* and 5* guys per recruiting class, and over 3000 prospects that are rated 2* and 3* per recruiting class, correct?

Of course there are going to be as many get drafted, hell there should be far more get drafted that were 2* and 3* recruits because of sheer numbers.

Now you pick out those guys out of the 3,000 per year that are going to "make it" and I'm sure Dooley and every other coach in the country would gladly offer them scholarships.

From a percentage standpoint far more players rated 4* and 5* out of high school make it to the NFL than 2* and 3* guys. And it's not even close.

Exactly, that's like saying there are more car crashes than airplane disaters. There are WAY more cars on the road than planes in the air.

If you really want to analyze this * thing, the proper way to do it is to break it down by All-BCS conference teams, and NFL picks in each round. Then find out what percentage of players in test group were 5*, 4*, 3*, etc. Then compare that percentage with the percentage of of players that were 5*, 4*, 3*, etc. that made the all-conference team or were drafted in the particular round.

For example, if 5* players make up 5% of SEC rosters in each class, and 15 SEC players in a particular class make the all-SEC team, having more than 5% of those players be 5* recruits would be evidence that being a 5* recruit is predictive of greater success.
