yes, i think charlie strong would be a good hire.

but, the ridiculous thing here is that people seem to be under the illusion that whoever the choice is a guaranteed success or failure. no one knows.

nothing is a sure thing and everyone is carrying this angst around over trying to guarantee the future, when you can't guarantee the future.

i understand. i do. people are tired of losing and desperately don't want to get this wrong. totally understandable.

but, there is no choice, even among good educated guesses, that the man who is hired will succeed or fail.

we don't know. and everyone is convinced that their personal choice is the answer.

truth hurts, and the Gruden bs in the threads has a lot to do with the fanbase that views this site being divided. Posters set people up for a huge letdown, and people have put themselves in positions to be let down and react by putting so much stock into so much misinformation.

Outside of internet sites like this, the fanbase will be united by a new hire and staff.

The UT fan base is only divided because there are so many stupid people who actually believed Jon Gruden or Jesus Christ himself was going to be the next head coach. This is a fantastic hire.

My thing is....

We pursued Fisher, Gundy, Fedora, Mora, and Strong.

Interesting....

Fisher had just gotten a contract extention, and we "pursued" him, and Oh look!

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher reportedly close to contract extension - OrlandoSentinel.com - This was 3 hours ago.

Mora and Fedora have only been with their programs one year. Very small chance either of them would Kiffin their program.

Gundy, just received a contract extension this year.

Strong, just received a contract extension last year.


My question is....why in the world did we go after seemingly only candidates who had JUST had their contract issued or renewed, and who had just come out and stated how happy they were?

Doesn't that seem strange? It's almost like we went after candidates that were the least likely to come, given their situations.

Um, Chris Petersen, Gary Patterson, Brian Kelly, Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops, Greg Roman to name a few.

Any of those options would have been a nice place to start. At least TRY for those. I know many of them are pipe dreams, but at least talk to them, and let a report get out that you tried to talk to them.
