We want Mike matthews

It’s not a good sign that he will be the stud everyone thinks he will be . . . If he can’t get on the field to pass by some of our hands of stone guys.

But I think I read he was more of a raw athlete coming out of high school . . . So it could click for him . . . Next year. At this point, he will not be the savior of the underperforming WR group. We have a LOT of number 3 level guys . . . But no great / explosive game changers.

I hope you're right, but why wouldn't he at least be listed a questionable on the injury report then.

no idea. Heupel has always been coy on injuries.

At this time of year, everyone has dings. Some play through with them (see White and Thornton) and some don't. Many times, the medical staff tells a coach a kid could play but would be better if he sat for another game. So maybe they don't list those in case they have to play them in an emergency.

You gotta wonder if he's portal bound at this point.
Amazing how our own fan base is to think like this when the guy played on multiple possessions tonight. He takes outside reps. Didn’t take that many slot reps in practice so he probably doesn’t have a good grasp of it. He’s also been banged up. Coaches love him and want him in more. Just be patient. This is your BVS talking.

It seems like people fail to remember that the services said that MM was still a project at WR. People see 5 star and lose all common sense. What good is it to have him out there if he is running the wrong route. Running the wrong route will cause turnovers because QBs throw to spots most times. If the WR isn't at that spot, there are only 2 outcomes.

No reason to assume he doesn’t know the plays

His position coach said he needed to show more in practice to get on the field. If he puts in the work we'll see him. Hopefully he does because I'm tired of seeing our WR drop passes throughout the game. But ultimately it's on him to do what he needs to do to get that playing time. Being a 5 star recruit doesn't guarantee you anything if you aren't putting in the work behind the scenes.

I mean, he hasn't been playing much, that's a tell. Nothing wrong with it, he's a freshman. No need for the fans to put pressure on him.
It's certainly possible. If that is the case, I don't know why we couldn't just install 5 plays for Matthews. The sample size is tiny, so maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like he has the best body control on the team. We've seen Squirrel, Nimrod, and Bru all fail to adjust to balls in the air yet we continue to give them deep balls instead of the most athletic player in the WR room. I'll never understand it. Oh well.

Personally, I would like to see us lean more heavily on 12 personnel with Bru and Thornton wide. Our TE's can catch a football along with Bru and Thornton. Let the RB's eat and take your shots with the 2 proven WR's once the defense starts selling out to stop the run.
