We will see where we are heading....

I can't imagine Heupel having a weaker roster than he had these first 2 seasons. I think we see deeper and more talented rosters going forward....or I'd hope so. The big question will be QB. That's really where the rubber meets the road. Any team with higher aspirations needs a really good QB. Without that one player, not much of your other skill positions can be as effective as they would be if the QB were top shelf. I don't know if we can beat Clemson with all the losses and defections. I'd feel a lot better if Hooker were still available, but it is what it is. I'm taking the approach that we're getting a head start on next year. We're turning the page and a lot of guys we were likely going to depend on next season will be getting a lot more of the reps for the bowl game. It also gives this staff a really good look at this roster going forward. That's got to be of benefit to recruiting and the portal. Nothing exposes deficiencies like the spotlight and a top shelf opponent. Regardless of the outcome, it's been a great and totally unexpected season. No complaints from me other than the SCjr game. That one shouldn't have happened, but this is Tennessee. Have to expect stinkers in critical moments like that.

I guess the excitement for the bowl game will be to give us an idea where we need to get stronger. I think it will be a tough game with all the sit outs. Lets go Big Orange. Take good notes and hit the recruiting and Portal...

Am sure at this point I have no idea who will opt out. However, I think it will painfully show the weakness we already know and confirm some of our fears about others. I just hope we play well. Feel winning is going to be really tough as we just don't have the ability to overcome shortfalls in depth as Celm has.

We get a sneak preview of ‘23 with Milton under center vs a top OOC opponent in a high profile NY6 bonus game

It’s a win/win situation Win Lose or Draw the actual game

While I want to whip Clemson’s as$

I’m looking far more at our execution on both sides of the ball

With NO PENALTY vs our ‘23 record

We’re gonna learn A TON from this game

I agree. You want a TN win of course but a win/loss doesn't really mean anything now. Hopefully the 12 team playoff changes that.

To this point, I give you Exhibit A:
Heisman Finalist Stetson Bennett

Respectfully disagree here. If Milton continues overthrows and generally does not play well and we get beat then it changes the expectation for next year along with the level of excitement and anticipation. Then we have the Spring to see if either Tayven Jackson or Nico can be a true option for the Fall. Puts a lot of pressure on untested QBs and Heupel.

I am hopeful that Milton gets it done and improves his passing skills, but I am afraid that it will not happen and that he is not the answer at QB.

I really want to be wrong about this, but I am very fearful that he will continue to have way too many overthrows on open receivers and a change will be needed at QB before next seasons end.

Hooker is obvious, Tillman just announced yesterday. I've seen nothing that says Wright and Hyatt are definitively out. If they've said something, I missed it. Otherwise it's just an assumption.
Hyatt is speculation, but it's hard to imagine him playing in the bowl game and returning next season. Darnell is done.

Hyatt's stock has never been higher. I don't see him risking that over an inconsequential bowl game.

I'm not sure about Wright. If he were to have incredible games in the bowl game then shine in the Senior bowl, it may help him climb up a round. But it's a pretty big risk as well.

That does not mean he's opting out of the Orange Bowl. It just says he's accepting a bid to Senior Bowl.

From the article:
Now, will he play in the Orange Bowl against Clemson? Opt outs have become increasing popular as guys turn their attention to draft prep and would rather not run any risk of getting hurt. Tennessee has a few guys that might choose to do that — Jalin Hyatt, Cedric Tillman and now also Wright.

He's likely going to, but he's not said anything officially about Orange Bowl. I expect him to, but this is still a speculative article.

While not that important as for win/loss it is very important, as you state, to Milton for next season. Coaches can see how he performs against a top flight opponent and that will show them what needs to be done in spring. Keep planning on Milton or open up the QB competition. Better happen in this game instead of 3rd game into next season.
