Some truth there but Rattler's performance WAS fluky. He threw some absolutely dimes throughout the game. Passes he hadn't made all year. So many times even when we had decent coverage he would drop a perfect pass. He had the game of his life.
Again I would not consider that a fluke, bad timing maybe but we weren't cheated by some unlucky twist of fate. We were beaten soundly for 60 minutes, that's not what I consider a fluke. Rattler also played well the next week against Clemson. Most likely the light bulb just finally came on for him, which is always a danger for someone having a lot of raw talent.

That doesn't make it a fluke. We didn't lose by some unlucky turn of events, we got our butt kicked fair and square.
I guess we have different definitions of fluke. Yes, we got our butts kicked fair and square. But I think we'd beat them 9 out of 10 times on a normal week.

If anything, I would ultimately expect more Clemson players than Big Orange lads to opt out of this game. Clemson is accustomed to playoff and major bowl appearances. No Tennessee player has played in a bowl game of this magnitude in more than 20 years.

Hyatt's stock has never been higher. I don't see him risking that over an inconsequential bowl game.

I'm not sure about Wright. If he were to have incredible games in the bowl game then shine in the Senior bowl, it may help him climb up a round. But it's a pretty big risk as well.

Agreed. Hyatt is at worst a high second, and I'll bet he moves into the 1st round after the combine, as WR's that can take the top off a defense are at a premium in the NFL. Hyatt should sit the bowl out and get ready for his next step.

Well, that's unprovable one way or another, but it certainly wasn't some stroke of luck, they beat us straight up in every aspect of the game for 60 minutes Go read the game threads on here from that night, folks knew w what they had just watched in the 4th quarter. We'll get them next year, I truly believe next year will be a different story in Neyland but for this year I'm going to just tip my cap, because any other response is frankly more embarrassing than just getting beat.

I guess the excitement for the bowl game will be to give us an idea where we need to get stronger. I think it will be a tough game with all the sit outs. Lets go Big Orange. Take good notes and hit the recruiting and Portal...

My guess is this is going to be a very sloppy game. Seems neither group of players are very excited about playing the game..

I don't understand all of the Milton hate.
.

I don’t think I’d call it hate. I think most Vol fans really hope he succeeds. I do believe there is a healthy dose of “Show Me” though. And especially against a good opponent. One thing is for certain. He is getting a great chance to do just that on Dec. 30th. We are going to find out how he handles it.

Hyatt is speculation, but it's hard to imagine him playing in the bowl game and returning next season. Darnell is done.

Just because he excepts invite to Senior bowl doesn’t mean he is NOT playing in the Orange bowl. I fully expect him to be there. I haven’t read or heard one thing to think he will not play our bowl game. Only one for sure on Tuesday at 7:17 pm is Tillman. Geez can we please talk about something that matters.

A fluke is when you lose 31-30 but were minus five in turnovers and outgained the other team 2 to 1. 63 points and 600 yards isn't a fluke. We got took behind the woodshed.

Disagree completely. A fluke is when a team has success in a way they never have before and haven’t since in my opinion. That’s exactly what it was. They played out of their minds and we played absolutely horribly. It was a perfect storm. Do you believe you would see the same result if we played them multiple more times? No way.

Where in “not likely” does it say zero? It means Clemson is not likely to have opt outs, which is plural, y’a know, more than one?

Except they beat Clemson @Clemson the next weekend. They went 8-4 and finished in the Top 25. They legitimately got better as the year went on, nothing lucky about our game.

Now this was a flukey game:

4 turnovers by UT, 2 pick 6's and another FG off a turnovers deep in our territory. South Carolina wasn't nothing like that, they drove at will and outplayed us on both sides of the ball.

Respectfully disagree here. If Milton continues overthrows and generally does not play well and we get beat then it changes the expectation for next year along with the level of excitement and anticipation. Then we have the Spring to see if either Tayven Jackson or Nico can be a true option for the Fall. Puts a lot of pressure on untested QBs and Heupel.
I think Nico is the real deal and “think” he’s early enroll to get bowl practice in? But I don’t think it’s ideal for any frosh to start, unless we’ve got a Trevor Lawrence type talent, and so, I think Milton is qb1 pretty much regardless for at least first 2-3 games, unless he’s a train wreck, which I don’t expect him to be. He’s no Hooker but if he settles in he could be a top quad sec qb…IMO. But this isn’t Pruitt/Jones era where we pin all our hopes on JG or Dormady…we’ve got some skilled backups

You can keep your head in sand with denial, but it was not a fluke☺. Actually SC should’ve been +8 on Clemson but there was a fluke INT in end zone. Did they get lightning in bottle two weeks in a row, probably, but our players and coaching performance in that game revealed exactly where, if anyone wasn’t sure, our defensive coaching vulnerabilities are! And because of the body of record and that game, i want WM gone! I’ve seen enough of his sloppy secondary in two stints at UT.

It’s hard to blame coaching when it’s obvious that we simply don’t have legitimate power 5 talent in the secondary. None of our defensive backs would start anywhere else in the sec except for at Vanderbilt. They are two slow to play man, they react to slow to play zone, and they even made spencer rattler look like an all American.
