Dear GOD I hope so. The sooner these juniors and seniors are no longer a part of our program the better chance we have to actually have a winning season.

Lane and Hurd will both see minutes at RB. LB will be interesting as we will likely see Reeves Maybin, AJ and Maggitt. You will see a race between Bates, Mouhon and Weatherd to claim a spot.

It actually would not surprise me to see Maggitt play WDE and the LBs be AJ, Reeves-Maybin and an incoming recruit.

DB I would not be surprised to see TKjr starting with Randolph and then anyone at corner. I think we will actually have depth and competition here.

DL I can see a package with O'Brien, Carr, Maggitt, and Vereen on passing downs and O'Brien, Carr, Lambert, and Maggitt on running plays.

We will be much faster and more athletic next year on D.

Hope like hell AJ takes some bad advice and moves on to preparing for the NFL Draft. We need new blood ASAP. Excited to get Maggitt back, see what Reeves-Maybin and the highly rated freshmen lbs can do.

What I find depressing is that We find ourselves in such a deep hole that freshman (esp this many) are needed to start immediately.
Butch is rebuilding the talent pool quickly in my opinion. It will take some time to develop that talent to full potential, but it will be exciting to see what he can do with it.

I would dare say that all of the class coming in will be in the two deep next year save maybe a slight few (2 to 3) that will redshirt and many will start.

Our team will look completely different and while we will be very young there is no way in hell that you can convince me or CBJ that Kelly JR etc should not be a starter.

I am predicting 16 freshman starters/ incoming Jucos next year by the end of the season.

Heaven help us if we have to start 16 first year players next year. That's a high school team dude !!!! That many first year starters will tank in the SEC games. I don't care how talented they are----I hope you're wrong.

If UT has to play that many true Frosh. then the 2014 season will be similar to '13, but hopefully with noticeable areas of improvement.

However, other teams in the SEC will have youth at some key positions as well so it should be balanced, especially in the SEC East.

Who would you start ahead of them?

I would much rather play with 16 freshman then the upperclassman we are playing with now. Since 2010 we are 20-27 so I do not think playing 16 true freshman will hurt that much, I will take the speed and athleticism over the so called "experience" any day.

Pig already starts in the slot. I wonder how many times a game they will use that play that Dobbs tosses it forward to Pig for zero or negative yards or swing passes or reverses that lose yards every time they run it. Other teams execute it, i just wonder if its WR blocking or what. Seems evertime they run it on first down we are instantly in 2nd and more than 10. We need a speed, homerun guy bad and can see Pearson filling that next season and can see Jenkins and Vic getting slot time as well.

We run it too often. Other teams use it as a gimmick, change of pace play. It's not a surprise anymore when you run it 4 or 5 times a game.

100% agree. Even if we have to take a step back, I'd rather have guys with a high ceiling getting the experience. The current ceiling is....well, I'm tiired of bumping my head on it.

Here's a question for you guys who want to see this many freshmen playing next year. Will you be happy with the potential 5 win season again?

Be honest---will you be happy with the losses just to see the young guys playing? If so, don't say Butch needs to be fired or his entire staff needs to be replaced if we can't get to a bowl game.

McNeil should bulk up and try linebacker his safety days will be over next season. I think Cortez McDowell and Todd Kelley Jr. will move ahead of him.

Seems like a lose lose

Regardless of who plays, in whatever position or for whatever amount of minutes, I offer this...

Since this season has so eerily resembled Jones' first year at Cincy, here's to hoping next season bears as much resemblance to his second season there.

Go Vols!!!

you any of you are expecting a team FULL of true freshman throughout the 2-deep at almost every position to actually be any good... just wow. If essentially the whole starting roster is freshman, then we'll be lucky to win 4 games next year. Freshman =/= strong elite teams.

I love the raw athleticism the '14 class brings and I'm sure 3 or 4 will be major players for starting time, but I hope to god this class isn't our new lineup.

Yes. I have already said as much in my previous post. Rip the band aid off, and let Butch rebuild with his players, not Dooley's cast offs. I for one have been around too long to bail on my Vols because we have a few down years. The term VFL gets thrown around too loosely here. VFL....Vol For LIFE....not Vol For a few years while we're winning.

I have a question were you happy with the performance yesterday? Ole Miss is doing pretty good with a lot of Freshman. I am telling you right now that 16 freshman could perform better then the defense on the field yesterday.

More play makers, more speed, more athleticism, we will win more games next year with those freshman than we win this year.

I guess you believe that a defense full of high school players can hang with Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU just because some of them have speed. That's almost like saying the top tier of the SEC can play with any team in the NFL :):):)

The funny thing is. The same people saying they would be OK with a 5 loss season next year with the majority of freshman playing are the same ones that would be starting this thread all over again. You might see 3 or 4 TRUE freshman starting next year. If we see "a lot" then we're in a world of hurt.

McNeil was favorite recruit of his class but he looked extremely slow yesterday.. Hard hitter.. But his speed is marginal tkj needs to replace him

The speed excuse is the dumbest and most tiring thing on this board. It's got more to do with being out of position than speed.
