We would be winning 9-10 games if Kiffin was still here....

Yeah, yeah guys, I know he is the biggest slimeball snake to ever set foot on Shields-Watkins Field. He put the knife in all of our backs, and I hate him for that and how he did it..no question! I wish him the worst!

BUT, that slimeball snake brought valuable characteristics to this program such as confidence, swagger and arrogance! Do you guys realize that Tennessee was the most talked about 5-7 team EVER?! In one year, that man had TN football back on the map! Yeah, we went a mediocre 7-6, but look at the results from some of those games. We had to play #12 Virginia Tech in the Peach Bowl which wasn't fair, so he really could have/should have went 8-5. Hell, if Cody doesn't block the FG he could have easily went 9-4! Kiffin is what WE NEEDED at the time...I thought it was the PERFECT hire! Just turned out to blow up in our faces...but who saw that coming?!

So, with all this being said, what are some of your thoughts on Kiffin? Did you like him and feel was the perfect guy for the job when he got hired? Did you like his swagger and Cali arrogance? Do you think if he had stayed we'd be relevant again winning 9 or 10 wins...making New Years Day and BSC bowl games?

I'll admit, It killed me when I found out he was leaving...total dagger. I enjoyed his only year in Knoxville. Yeah, he made some horrible decisions off the field, but that man was just what the Doctor ordered AT THAT TIME!

I really hope you are kidding and my sarcasm meter needs to be worked on! If you are being serious, just ask any USC fan how they enjoyed 3.5 years with that snake as a coach!

What is soooooo off the wall about this notion?! So tell me, what would be be doing if he were still our coach? Winning 3-4 games? Wouldn't have happened on THAT staff's watch!

HIs dream job of a team quit on him at So. Cal. I doubt he would've been more effective in the long run at Tennessee.

Im guessing thats why he just got fired for being such a good coach on his watch?? And he did take over a team with talent and couldnt do anything with it!

Yeah, because USC was so depleted of talent and ranked preseason Number 1 that he could not win there, but he could have done it at UT.

Makes sense. :hi:

I would agree with you- 9 wins. In the one season he had here, it was better than the last 4. He also did it with "less talent"- wasn't that the reason Fulmer was fired, being lazy and not putting in the hours to stay on top, poor recruiting. I am sure someone can stack up Fulmer's recruiting classes with Dooley's 3. I would venture to say Dooley's were ranked higher. SEC coaches "hated" him- a trait I liked at the time. Who wants a coach that the other SEC coaches talk pretty to? I want the coach that kicks their butts on the field and wants no friends. Interesting topic- this is a sports forum so I think if it's UT related it is fair game.

We would have been nailed with heavy recruiting penalties. Not to mention what he told Tajh Boyd and Bryce Petty. The only positive about if Kiffin were to stay is that Dooley would have never been here. I am dumbfounded at this thread.

This BS again! Really? Come on Man!

First, the NCAA would have buried us.

Second, he signed one class full of idiots that are all gone and not because they graduated.

Third, what about his record and well deserved firing at USC screams success to you?

We may be winning more, but the wins would be meaningless because we would probably have a 5 year bowl ban or something of that magnitude.

I mean its obvious how well we would be doing now. I mean just becuase he ran USC into the ground doesn't mean we would have been better off with him right?

No we dodged a bullet.

If Kif. hadn't left for USC we'd be worse off and with sanctions. He was here a year and got us on probation. All the great recruits he brought in were thugs or had bad attitudes. It was a recipe for disaster.

Just in case this isn't a joke (and I still think it must be)...no, never cared for the hire and wasn't sorry to see him go. The only bad thing, in hindsight, is that we ever hired him in the first place.

He's not very smart. His resume doesn't suggest that he is fit to be a head coach on any level. He's a walking magnet for NCAA violations. He went to the prime head coaching job in the Pac 12 and worked himself out of a job -- only to have Ed Orgeron take over and immediately improve the Trojans.

I don't get why anyone would have any confidence in Kiffin, Jr.

Let's talk about what would have happened if Bill Battle wasn't forced out after the 1976 season.

I think you are right. I think the key to winning was to replace our traditions with those from USC and to pay players to come here. Those would have more than made up for his lack of coaching skills in the long run.
