Twitter Is Suspending Numerous Accounts For ‘Harmful Activity’

The social media website began cracking down on Twitter activity after rioters supporting President Donald Trump stormed the United States capitol, committing acts of vandalism and postponing the certification process as members of Congress were forced to evacuate the building. Conservative Twitter users began to voice complaints that their accounts were losing large quantities of followers beginning Wednesday. By Friday evening, numerous large Twitter accounts had posted saying they had lost several thousand followers.

“It’s clear that Twitter is wiping out conservative accounts,” Daily Wire writer Matt Walsh tweeted. “That’s why your follower counts are going down. This is the biggest purge we’ve seen, and not the last.”

So Twitter has “permanently banned” President Donald Trump’s account.

While this will please Democrats, and perhaps lessen the (justifiable) heat the company is taking from regulators, it just proves again that Twitter’s claims that it is “just a platform” is hogwash.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley took to social media Friday evening to slam tech giants and their efforts aimed at “silencing people,” claiming that type of behavior is “what happens in China, not our country.”

Haley’s remarks were made in a tweet, which was released shortly after Twitter announced it would permanently ban American President Donald J. Trump from its platform.

“Silencing people, not to mention the President of the US, is what happens in China not our country,” Haley wrote, including the hashtag “#Unbelievable.”

In November, after Twitter flagged her tweet about election fraud, Haley called out Twitter for ignoring a tweet casting doubt on the Holocaust by Iran’s Ayatollah.

“Wow,” Haley stated at the time. “When Iran’s Ayatollah says the Holocaust didn’t happen, Twitter doesn’t say ‘this claim is disputed.’ When I say ballot harvesting makes election fraud easier Twitter says that’s disputed. Wonder why conservatives don’t trust big tech?”

Apple to Parler: Crack Down on Free Speech or Face Ban

Apple is threatening to ban social media platform Parler from its app store unless it cracks down on constitutionally protected speech that Apple doesn’t approve of, a move that would effectively exclude the app from all Apple smartphones.

Parler is a top-performing app in the App Store, frequently taking the top spot in downloads as censorship on other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter has escalated.

Apple has given Parler just 24 hours to remove content that it considers “objectionable,” presenting the app with a seemingly impossible list of demands to meet in such a tight time window.

Google Blacklists Parler App from Play Store

Google has removed social media platform Parler from its Play Store for Android devices, stating the app will remain suspended until it implements “robust” moderation policies that crack down on free speech.

In a statement on Friday, Google claimed that “in light of this ongoing and urgent public safety threat,” Parler is suspended from its Play Store until it implements moderation policies.

The move has effectively excluded the app from all Android smartphones.
