I remember when they would run the HILL. What happened to the HILL did they bulldoze it down?

Update on Training Program per vol2002

Current team.

-no plan for a workout, always a surprise. Lawson likes that. Does sudden changes, weight versus aerobic. Trying to keep them uncomfortable, not stale. These guys have not done anything like this before. This is hardest thing they've done, all agree. Unsure what you are doing and how long. Players enjoying challenge.

- players spending a lot time together

- first time in a while all prospects commenting on how much they like current team.

- players were getting tough love in past, but probably needed more direct interaction. Players saying they are talking more with current coaches than any time in past. Noticeably different vibe. It's about family and relationships. (not a hatchet job on last staff, but just different)

- current players are excited about getting into film study, meeting with new coaches.

Not to be obsessive, but I'd still love for someone to post some specific stories about some players in relation to the weight training. I'm still detoxing from Da'Rick throwing weights at people. Would love to hear something more than Posey lifted a bunch and the whole team cheered him on.
It was a cool crisp January morning as the players strolled into the weight room. Tiny had on gray sweat pants and a power T shirt (longs leave). They all had protein shakes and an apple for breakfast. As they put the weight on the bar in the squat rack they were reminded to lift with their legs, not their backs. Tiny stepped up to the rack with a look in his eye that would scare a bear, the look of determination. (Imagine rocky type inspirational music in the background softly playing). He grasped the bar firmly with both hands and mounted it squarely on his shoulders. Everyone looked in anxious delight. He began his rep but seemed to have a problem, the group began chanting TINY TINY TINY, and with the look of hulk hogan in a sleeper hold with the ref lifting his arm for the third and final time came over his face the crowd knew what was about to happen. He let out a yell that would raise the dead Ahghhhhhhh. (Inspirational music gets louder). And he did the impossible, IT WAS UP. HE DAD DONE IT. everyone lived happily ever after.

IMO TIFWIW

So in the video, Tiny talks about it not being like "body builders" but like "athletes" with a high-rep approach instead of high-weight. James talks about being the "best conditioned team out there" so "we can win the fourth quarter".

I know both of those comments were "team speak". But, they made me wonder if the previous S&C coach (who I thought was awesome) didn't focus enough on endurance. Being huge only helps until you're gassed. And if that happens before the clock hits zero, it's no help.

The last S&C coach at the direction of Dooley focused on getting the team bigger and stronger which would explain Tiny's remark. I don't think they were terribly well conditioned and they seemed to lose speed.

I think Lawson is doing a balancing act of raw strength, prime conditioning and from "Heartbreak Ridge": Improvise, Overcome and Adapt!!! It's a winning mentality that we can and will perservere.
:good!:

McCullers evidently lost even more weight and AJ Johnson has shed pounds per VQ

That doesn't surprise me, this staff seems to want quicker guys across the board as opposed to bigger. We all know Dooley wanted bigger, stronger players but that's not what Jones and company need for their system. It'll be interesting to see how that changes in just one offseason.

Both of those guys will be first rounders, because of this year.

I found it interesting that Tiny said that they are already running 300m shuttles, and they normally don't do that until the summer.

I love it. Our teams were looking gassed, especially in the secondary. I'm thinking we're going to see a much better looking squad, in terms of keeping up with everyone else, and sticking it to them. 4th quarter is where we have lost a whole lot of ball games the past few years. Hopefully we'll get them the other way now.

and we saw how that worked out, sometimes bigger and stronger does not equal faster...Dooley's motto on D: "bigger, stronger, slower." The key is to find a balance among conditioning, weight training and eating right. If one is out of wack it undermines what you are trying to acheive with the others.

When CBJ was hired, I seem to remember some stats floating around about how well his teams did in the 4th Q. Maybe the conditioning is part of that.

I don't care if our players look like Lou Ferigno or not, as long as they play like the Hulk.

May be a dumb question but I've looked and can't find it but what is the "path to 7" ? I've heard it mentioned several times but don't know what it represents.

Some of you folks with more info than I...anyone know how the players are reacting to the new coaches. I am pretty sure they are with the strength coaches now. Any info would be appreciated!

Without even reading any other posts in this thread I can predict the following...

1.) The new strength coach is better than the last. More energetic and holds more accountability. Clearly the previous coach didn't know what he was doing.

2.) The team is working harder than ever before. New attitude, new "team" concept. They're really buying in.

3.) Players have never been through a harder workout. All are reporting that they have "never been this sore."

That and coaching played huge roles in some fourth quarter let downs.

Anything that gives our team a 4th quarter edge makes me happy. The 4th quarter of this past Florida series will be forever haunting me...
