could you expound on this?

Don't put her in that spot. She doesn't want to say anything negative and wants to move on.
Last year was a mess on many fronts. I don't know how anyone involved would be happy with much of anything. You send your son as a wr to play for a coach. He gets injured, is moved to TE, maybe lost a rs?, the team somewhat sucked, and the coach you liked is gone, but you also know he didn't do some things well. That doesn't sound enjoyable.

Great perspective that is not usually available to the public. I try to look at it from all angles but, until now, this angle was missed. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Sparty...iirc at the time she said that croom went to the coaches on his own and suggested the move to TE. Especially since he was going to have to have surgery and out for the season. I do remember her being excited about it and proud of him for making the hard call. As were all at the time. Not sure if that injury was something that had been nagging him since HS. So if anyone knows please advise.

I agree with not putting her on the spot so was just bringing the info I remember to add to it. I saw her comment as more of how the season just got ugly as all know how much she loved her some Dooley. Things may have changed idk but that's the way I took it.

Sorry and seriously not trying to be a prick but some on here were trying to show this angle but were bashed for being doolaid drinkers. If it was missed it was cause people wanted to miss it.

I say this mainly cause I like what u said as it means u, and hopefully others, are open to looking at all angles now. W/L bottomline only thinking is not IMO what we need right now. We need people to do the same with our new regime. If people won't then we r going to be here again in 3 yrs.

CBJ has a shorter leash for me but at the same time it needs to be realistic.

thank you for understanding and for the most part you're right with the exception of :

1) my son requested to move to TE; that was his decision 100%

2) MEDICAL Redshirt had to happen with the injury

Now that we're moving forward.... that's exactly what we'll do. What's done is done. Right wrong or indifferent decisions have been made for the BUSINESS OF FOOTBALL $$$$$$ ....

Yes, Ma'am! I hear Lovejoy is pretty tough, but if Norcross brings it like last night, I'm thinking we're hard to beat. P.S. if you see Bobo or those boys from Bama down there on the sidelines next week, could you "accidentally" lock them in a supply closet somewhere :):whistling: With Jones' style of offense, I'm hoping a few of those Blue Devils will take a long look at UT.

me too! I gotcha... I'm always in their ears... and eyes too because I wear so much orange. lol:eek:lol:

Sorry about the injury. It happens. Glad to hear about the redshirt. Hope it makes it a little easier to handle all the circumstances. Back to square one and start over, but a year grown physically and mentally, and an entire career in front of you. That sounds pretty good to me.

I'm not being funny when I say this, but please take heed Vol fans or bandwagon fans...

I have a few recruits that are paying so much attention to all of the SEC bullcrap; that it's unbelievable. You guys should STOP thinking what fans say on these boards doesn't matter. IT DOES MATTER; believe me you!!

I was approached tonight a the Norcross football game regarding our coaching situation. I've defended UT and Dooley specifically so much the past few months. I luv Dooley; unconditionally.... I will respect Jones as long as his goals stay in line with integrity of school academics and players long-term desires.

First; nobody will ever hear me say anything negative regarding UT.

Second; if anybody thinks for a moment that a big name school won't get a good hire no matter the circumstances is also nuts.

third;Fans control much much much more than you could ever imagine. Decisions are based on relationships. whether its with coach, team members, staff; parental guidance; and how receptive fans are to the player.

I have a friend that reads these threads on a daily basis to see what going to be said about her son right now. I know player that has been offered that his ENTIRE family reads these threads on every freakin' board he's been offered. It becomes an obsession to a point. Hell, that's how I got stuck on the boards. I wanted to know what you thought about my son and if the school really needed him. I was so drawn to UT fans base, but now that i'm on the field, I stay away because the same thing that drew me on the boards pushed me off. CRAZY ass fans. lol:loco:

I totally understand this MZTerry but at the same time, recruits and their families really, really shouldn't take ANYTHING said on these message boards to heart. Every fan base has their share of undesirables and those few (or maybe many?) shouldn't reflect on the entire fan base. You kind of have to realize that there are trolls, generally unintelligent people, those that are just negative in nature and also just downright immature people on these boards. Obviously, it's difficult to separate that, especially when someone is badmouthing your baby, but hopefully the parents and recruits can distinguish between real fans and the over the top type "fan".

Glad to see you still posting on the board. I would like to ask you to let any recruits, and families, (AK) that you come into contact with to not base their decisions on something that a few morons may or may not say on a message board, but rather look at the big picture. :hi:

Awesome! Probablly doesn't hurt that Butch's Cinicinatti squad lead both on and off the field. He should fit well into what Mz Terry is describing.

Speaking as a parent. I've read on a few different boards that a few of the coaches that were interviewed had issues with our academic structures. That really bothered me and here's why.

During my son's recruitment process, I had a spreadsheet of questions for all 25+ schools that offered him, and in that list of questions I had few specifically regarding academics. I asked every coach who i let into my living room:

1. At what gpa do you NO longer allow your players to hit the field?

2. Who is the person(s) that support the players while they're on the road?

3. Will the parents have access to the academic support team?

4 I found University of Tennessee to honor EVERY FREAKIN' THING they told me during recruitment to be 1000% TRUTH!

Academic probation is 2.0 ( You're not playing)

Note takers and tutors available(TRUTH)
Structured needs to EACH individual player (TRUTH)

Parent access to academic advisors (TRUTH)

Vol For Life Program (PHENOMAL TRUTH) Y'all really don't know the half of what that really means to the families AND our sons. Everything should not be shared publicly, but this is the best thing DOOLEY ever put in place.

I could share a million things that I wasn't told during recruitment, but NOT ONE THING negatively. I was blown away by the structure behind those players once he got on campus. I was absolutely stunned, thrilled, estatic; and definitely reassured that sending my son to the University of Tennessee was more than the right decision for our family and his well-being.

I had coaches that I put out of my house because they told me well "Mrs. Terry, student isn't failing until they hit a 1.9gpa". My mouth dropped, my husband head dropped, my son shook his head, and his Godmother asked the coach to repeat himself.

So I said all that to say this; If Dave Hart interviewed coaches that didn't like University of Tennessee's structure of our academics, then AMEN! What that tells me as a parent, that those coaches didn't give rats ass about these kids who are in college to earn a degree and an education by way of FOOTBALL. My son isn't in college to play football. He's playing football to earn the scholarship money they'll give him for his education. It's only a means to an end, and the end is his degree. Scholarships offers are partnerships. The university athletics is a BUSINESS first, and my son's education is MY BUSINESS. When we signed those papers February 1, 2012, it was business partnership we agreed to for four years annual renewal contract.... and it said Croom, you keep your grades up and perform at this level playing football and we'll give you "X" amount of dollars, room and board, and meal plan. Hell if nothing else... feeding him alone was good for me. lol

But seriously, it reaffirms that Dave Hart and the Unversity of Tennessee is insistant on maintaining the intergrity of the university, and I commend and appreciate that. I would NOT want to have my son in an environment where the people don't give a damn about him as a person and think of him as a commodity.

Welcome to the Univeristy of Tennessee Butch Jones. Looks like you ended up with my baby anyway... :0)

Very nice perspective...thank you

Great great post, and followups. I think coach Dooley laid the foundation for Butch Jones to come in and build on, I think, in a hurry. I loved how Butch gave Derek some love in his press conference. Hope your son's rehab is going well, and that he will be able to go full speed in the spring.
Keep telling the Truth and spreading the word!
GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I'm glad I didn't overstep and say something wrong. I know you r stepping back some and so want to get what I thought was correct info out there in case you didn't check in soon. :hi:

As a Dooley supporter I would love to know ur side of things. I know you won't post it but trust me if we were to ever run into each other...dinner is on me. And you better be hungry cause it's going to be at one of those big family style Italian places where I'll have a lot of time to talk to you about it. :p.

Hope the boy is rehabbing well and that he and his teammates are truly looking forward to what's ahead. GBO!!

post number 50 in this thread by MZTerry. You chicken little, naysayer, negavol, LOM or whatever that are always pissing and moaning about decisions surrounding our program, should take a minute or two and ready post 50 in this thread and then ask yourself, Self, am I helping the team that I profess to follow by spouting off all the time about what I think we should be doing and why the people in charge are doing it wrong.......now if you are bammers or corndogs, or warchickens in disguise, keep trolling.........There's a new sheriff in VolLand................and his name is (no not Reggie Hammond).... Butch Jones!
Go Big Orange........
Lets show what a great fanbase we really are......Come On Volunteers!!!

mzterry: I don't post on this board often but I read a lot of "opinions" posted by Vol "fans". I am often dismayed by the negativity of those posts.
I want to thank you. First, for choosing the University of Tennessee for your son's education. It is wonderful to know that you, as a parent are focused as much on academics as on athletics. You are a wonderful mother! I graduated from UT more than thirty years ago and I am very proud of my University and my education.

Second, I really love the fact that you have communicated to our most passionate fans that the parents and athletes DO pay attention to what is being said on these forums.

Third, I love YOUR passion for the University of Tennessee!
