We'll Find Out Next Year How Much Real Support The Basketball Program Has.

I'm not sure this will be going away just yet.
Once you get the "I Luv Controlled Kaos!!!"/"Brooce Iz Awsum" crowd out of the building, the vast majority of the people left will be those who understand the game well enough to know better.

I'd rather have a full arena full of both die-hard and bandwagon fans. The fact remains that Tennessee basketball doesn't have enough faithful "14 year season ticket holder" fans to fill up TBA through a down year or two. We must win to pack the house and in turn make the money for the program. You know that. Surely you're not suggesting we have a mediocre year just to see who the "real" fans are, are you?

I agree with everything but the bolded part. Hat isn't suggesting we should purposely throw games so that we can see who our true fans are. He is stating that he thinks we aren't going to be any good. Thus, we will see how many of the people that have been packing out Thompson-Boling will continue to show up... I think Hat cares more about basketball than he does seeing who the true fans are. Pretty sure if he had the option of keeping bandwagon fans, an SEC Title, and a Final Four Appearance or losing 20 games and getting rid of the bandwagon fans, he would pick keeping the fans. Some of you on this board just look too hard to find something that just isn't there...

Dude chill. Those types of fans make the Tommy a fun place to watch the games. The place would be worse than the early 90's if everyone sat next to each other breaking down the zone defense being displayed at the time instead of having a great time. I find myself somewhere in the middle of that crowd (though I never preferred the controlled kaos) and am fine with it.

Let it go.

Just curious what people think our average attendance might be next year vs this year?

The Pearlophiles and The Go To The Game To Be Seen Crowd will be long gone. The frontrunners will be nowhere to be found. The crowds will now consist of people who actually care about and support the program, not some clown in body paint. It'll be a welcome change.

He's gone. Let it go.

having a full arena is always a good when a fan base is excited and a team is winning the arena will be full, its a pretty simple formula.

Wait, did I miss something? Is this a new thing? Is this really the accepted nomenclature now?

Wow Pearlophile... He's clever and original

As opposed to the mindless drones supporting Pearl with their "It was just a cookout" and "He came clean to the NCAA because of his conscience" babble over and over.

Oh, so I guess you've never made one little mistake?

Not at all. I'm talking about the people who think UT started playing basketball in the Fall of 2005. They'll all be gone now and I won't miss them one damn bit. In fact, I hope they vacate the state and move to Northwest Florida with Forbes to wait for Pearl's return.

I started at UT in the Fall of 05. I got a job in Atlanta on March 21 of 2011. I didn't watch UT basketball until I got on campus. I stopped watching quite a bit this last year (couldn't stand a player on the team, probably won't next year either). I get some satisfaction out of knowing I satisfy all Pearlophile requirements.

And I said that when?

Apparently just not caring for hat's senseless hate makes you one.

Why can't people just be more forgiving? All he did was intentionally and flagrantly break an NCAA rule he'd been cited for violating before, lied about it, attempted to get others to lie about it, then broke another rule after giving a weepy apology. It's a cruel world we live in these days.

Is hat starting a "real" Vol fans thread that everyone else always gets blasted for?

A full arena is a bad thing. You realize this is what you're saying?

And he is gone for it, again, let it go. (And before you refer to me as a "Pearlophile" I approved of his firing and am ready to move on.)

Would you like to taste Bruce's tears that are so yummy and sweet? The tears of unfathomable sadness? Would that quench your thirst?

Not at all what I'm saying. I, unlike the Pearl As Messiah crowd, believe in Tennessee basketball. The idiot fringe and trash worshippers I'm talking about will ultimately be replaced by people who actually care about the program. That will happen far quicker than most anticipate. I'm just saying I'm glad the phonies, the clueless, and the Cult Of Pearl won't be around anymore.

Nope. If I look around in five years and he's had the same luck getting another gig Kevin Mackey and Todd Bozeman did, I might cease fire.

I have to admit that I am excited about what Coach Martin will do at UT, but....

How can you not have enjoyed Coach Pearl's success here? To me, if you are calling people who liked Coach Pearl "mental invalids" then you might want to give up being a basketball fan at all. You didn't enjoy being ranked #1 in the country? You didn't enjoy the trip to the Elite Eight? I didn't know Coach Pearl cheated when we took the trip to St. Louis to watch them lose at the buzzer to Michigan St., and at the time, I was glad he was our coach. Now, I'm glad CCM is our coach.

I think I can say I enjoyed the energy Coach Pearl brought to the program and still be excited about fresh blood at the same time. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

If they win, they will come.... If not TBA will be empty, it's that simple. Pearl supporters or not winners draw crowds and losers don't. Frankly I don't care who the coach is as long as he is putting up Ws he will have my full support. Keep a string of Ls going and just like CPF he will need to go.
