Welp-Banks cut by TB

Gotta be something.

How do you get cut before training camp even begins your rookie year?
Because he’s not very good. He was the best linebacker in a pretty bad linebacker room overall. The last 2 seasons is the worst I’ve seen the group since I started watching. I ever felt better about it when Colton Jumper was starting.

The guy couldn't cover a bed with a sheet, he'll have a hard time making a 53 man roster.

I will give him that he does some things exceptionally well because of his athleticism. He’s very good as a QB and a lot of his tip balls, QB hits, and sacks came from him playing as a spy.

His problem is that he doesn’t read and react well in pass coverage nor the run game. That’s a bad combo for a LB. If you’re bad against the run and the pass, you’re a liability

That is cold to cut a man prior to training camp. It is not fair to do that and other players are likely to get upset.

Maybeeee..he stepped on their logo ... maybe he cursed their cops...maybe he tried to slap one of their cheerleaders..maybeeee....he was just a good college athlete...lets not call it what it is

Total tackles is a very overrated stat. He had poor coverage grades, gave up multiple TDs in pass coverage (against Pitt alone), and didn’t read/react well at all in the run game. To the point were Beasley would actually beat Banks to the ball occasionally on plays ran to Banks side

your opinion

Most of that isn’t my opinion at all. I’ve posted his PFF grades before. I can direct you to the plays against Pitt and show you at least one example (can’t recall all) of Beasley beating him to the ball despite the play ran to banks.

So no, those aren’t my opinion

to be clear I was talking about total tackles being an overrated stat and in response to feeling better about CJ

It simply is. You could make ten tackles a game 20 yards down the field and have 120 tackles. That’s not impressive. It’s one of those 1900s stats that no one cares about anymore like total yards.

Tackles is dependent on being on the field more which is the complete opposite of what you want a defense to do

His coverage grade, his run grade, his pressure %, those things matter and they’re not very good

Lol. Maybe I didn't make it clear or simple enough for you "MY RESPONSE WAS TO HIS FEELING BETTER ABOUT CJ STARTING" to which a comparison of total tackles is more that adequate. Don't need to get in the weeds with PFF or any other Pro grading system for make my point.

A comparison of total tackles does nothing regardless of the players you’re comparing

What do you think player A having more tackles than player B proves

Statistics can be indicative of performance but usually need some context. But it is simple, a defensive players stats: total tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, interceptions are how they have performed on the field. Performance is what counts. I'll will continue to use these stats until the NFL and NCAA decide they're not relative and quit collecting them.

Do you think PFF doesn't use TT, TFL, S and INT stats to develop their grade? Of course they do.

Who's the better player JB or CJ?

This. I especially don't really get the people saying he was cut because of an attitude problem or discipline problem. He was cut because he was undrafted and not needed on the team. Hopefully another team that needs a LB picks him up. Weird how now that Jennings found success in San Fran don't really see a lot of people bring up his past - it's all positivity. Hopefully Banks can find the same success so the "thug life" clowns stfu about him too.

See I tend to look at things from a logical perspective.

You are correct and Banks was undrafted He could have signed with any of 32 teams.

In those situations, it is paramount for a player to pick the right "fit". This fit could encompass any number of factors-team culture, etc etc but for someone in Banks position the key is potential to make the team.

If the Bucs are set at LB-then Banks should have known this also and signed with another team.

Add in that TB is going through a horrendous rebuild and is not going to be competitive for a few years.

My point being that logic seems to indicate Banks may not have been entertaining many suitors.

Guess we will see if anyone picks him up, but the next time Jeremy Banks puts on a football uniform it may be in the xfl, usfl, etc.
