Wes Rucker on Bruce Pearl

The thing is... Bruce Pearl is STILL relevant with kids and college basketball. It's not like he disappeared. ESPN loves him.

Bruce can use that as LEVERAGE if another school ever offered. That's what puts TN in a tight decision.

Bruce will not coach the Vols but he will get another good job. UT better hope it's a team that is not on the schedule because it will get ugly if it is.

IF this happens, Pearl would be the first to survive what is basically the NCAA's coaching death penalty.

Anyone who really believes Pearl will be back should be taken out to the woods, hit in the head w a rubber mallet and left.

Best coach in program history......you shoul want him back. Program is under performing the last 3 seasons with good talent. Pearl would have had this team in the tourney all 3 years. Fulmer could coach this basketball team better. :loco:

I'll admit to not having followed basketball this year, but this thread is full of idiots. If it's time to fire CCM, then go out and find a great coach not coming off of a show-cause penalty that left your program with a black-eye. Bruce Pearl had his shot and screwed up royally. And just why so many think he can come back and be the same coach and not break rules baffles me. Talk about an ackward sit down with the parents when it comes to recruiting. "Well Coach Pearl, Coach Soandso from Bumblefawk U says you tried to cover up a secondary violation by committing a major violation, and not only that, but there are reports you tried to get a young man and his father to lie for you so the NCAA wouldn't come down on you. You are an admitted liar coming off a show-cause for lying to the NCAA, so why exactly should we trust our son's future to you?" Yep, no problems there.

Coach Pearl was a great coach at UT, but he threw it away and those days are over. People need to stop whining about wanting to rehire him and start thinking about how we can find a coach similar to him, but without the baggage.

Oh, and to anyone who believes the NCAA doesn't have the resources to keep a coach like Pearl under constant scrutiny, you're fooling yourself. The NCAA is like a scorned woman. They will find a way. Once you've pissed them off, they will move heaven and earth to piss in your Cheerios. But all of UT's sports programs would be getting that special attention, not just basketball.

Pearl isn't worth it. I hate the NCAA with a passion, mostly because it's completely obvious certain schools are allowed to skate the rules. Check out "investigations" over the last several years for proof. (I'm still wondering how much Phil Knight paid those sanctimonious bastards.) But UT isn't one of those schools. Better to try and stay off their radar as long as possible.

Hey, look on the bright side all the things Pearl did are now legal so he wouldn't have to lie.

The major weakness with this argument is that most of the coaches who received show cause didn't have Bruce Pearl's kind of success and also many of the other show cause perpetrators seemed to be a lot more egregious than what Pearl did like Sampson for instance. I know Pearl got three years but a lot of people felt it was excessive including me. It will be interesting to see what happens with Kelvin Sampson, Jim Tressel, and maybe Chip Kelly in the future. I think Sampson's show cause ends this year too.

You guys almost sound giddy when you type this stuff, like you WANT Pearl to come in and embarrass us.

Classy move by Pearl to try and head this off, but this reaction was inevitable. It's a complete pipe dream, but it was inevitable.

And you Pearl-First fans get your panties in a wad way too easily. All I did was comment on Pearl's own words.

I guess I must have dreamed all those UK/UT games under Pearl.

No, you're the one with your panties up so far that its making you angry. I've not championed Pearl's return one time. All you do is go from thread to thread calling anyone with a differing opinion than your's an idiot.

No, not giddy just stating facts. Whatever loser the AD trotts out there will be 1/10th the coach that Pearl is. Not because I think that there are not other good coaches but because the AD will never hire them.

Wow...so you knew day 1 when Pearl got here he was an awesome coach that would succeed here?

Discount hires. UT got lucky on one promotion for football and one hire for basketball going on the cheap. They think they can do it again.

That's almost always the way it works everywhere though.

Sports is big business now more than ever before. Everyone's salary is moving up quicker than before. If UT wants to get into the big time in football or basketball, they need to change their approach. But, my opinion.

No I didn't but I had more confidence then because I knew who made the hire. The people in charge will go with another nobody and we'll be in this same predicament three or four years down the road. They are buffoons IMO and I have ZERO confidence in them.
