I'll admit to not having followed basketball this year, but this thread is full of idiots. If it's time to fire CCM, then go out and find a great coach not coming off of a show-cause penalty that left your program with a black-eye. Bruce Pearl had his shot and screwed up royally. And just why so many think he can come back and be the same coach and not break rules baffles me. Talk about an ackward sit down with the parents when it comes to recruiting. "Well Coach Pearl, Coach Soandso from Bumblefawk U says you tried to cover up a secondary violation by committing a major violation, and not only that, but there are reports you tried to get a young man and his father to lie for you so the NCAA wouldn't come down on you. You are an admitted liar coming off a show-cause for lying to the NCAA, so why exactly should we trust our son's future to you?" Yep, no problems there.
Coach Pearl was a great coach at UT, but he threw it away and those days are over. People need to stop whining about wanting to rehire him and start thinking about how we can find a coach similar to him, but without the baggage.
Oh, and to anyone who believes the NCAA doesn't have the resources to keep a coach like Pearl under constant scrutiny, you're fooling yourself. The NCAA is like a scorned woman. They will find a way. Once you've pissed them off, they will move heaven and earth to piss in your Cheerios. But all of UT's sports programs would be getting that special attention, not just basketball.
Pearl isn't worth it. I hate the NCAA with a passion, mostly because it's completely obvious certain schools are allowed to skate the rules. Check out "investigations" over the last several years for proof. (I'm still wondering how much Phil Knight paid those sanctimonious bastards.) But UT isn't one of those schools. Better to try and stay off their radar as long as possible.
