Westbrook Gone

Nearly every player does that until they get whistled for it. You think Arike creates separation purely off her dribbling?

She wanted to win and wasn't afraid to try to make plays in a crappy offensive set, much like Simmons and DeShields before her. I think she'll be fine wherever she ends up. Hopefully there's a grad transfer out there who can help fill the gap from Evina's departure.

We have some real geniuses on this board, huh? Leader in scoring and assists leaves and they're trying to act like she was some scrub who wasn't any good.

I can't believe this is even a discussion, but many elite guards push off some to create separation. Diggins was a master at it, so ND's staff likely teaches it. Tiffany Mitchell did it a ton at SC. I'm not sure what that has to do with Westbrook and her decision to leave, but whatever.

You Left Out the part where she was the Leader in Turnovers.

You left out the part about her being SUSPENDED for a game this season.

You left out the part where she Publicly called for a firing of her coach/coaches.

One well known member of this board said she had as much “potential” as Holdsclaw and Parker. Who believes that assertion?

Her fans can follow her and her mama at whatever school she ends up at.

Her leaving is best for her and the University of Tennessee.

I just hope everyone can get the EW discussions out of their systems quickly so we can focus on the actual Lady Vol players...a group to which she no longer belongs of her own volition.

If she succeeds elsewhere and people want to celebrate her success as they did AM (although the situations are quite different since one was a two-year starter with a new coach and the other was a sub with no indication that the system would change), great. But arguing over her value to the team is pointless now. As things currently stand, she has zero value to the team. She's gone, and she ain't coming back, for better or worse.

The taillights are already fading, so let's get back to practice. Meanwhile, let's look for talented players who want to play here and will buy into the new coaching staff's philosophies.

So did Evina kick your dog; steal your lunch $; call your momma a mean name?

Once again, Evina said some changes needed to be made in the staff along with changing "some off court stuff" among players. "Changes need to be made in the staff" is an open-ended assertion that could mean many things but she did not call for anyone to be fired. So, why not quit with the mischaracterizations. You have been called out for this character assassination by several posters before but you just keep spewing bile.

EW had 101 TOs; Davis had 83; Jackson had 65 and the team had 509 TOs this season; IT WAS A TEAM PROBLEM.

Where do you think the team would have been without Evina's 163 assist (More than double any other LV) or her team co-leading 14.9 ppg?

Yeah, she got suspended violating team rules; and she accepted responsibility and apologized; So what is your beef? Candace Parker had a suspension too; I suppose the LVs would have been better off if CP3 s transferred as well?

Evina is a talented player; she did not need to be the next Parker to be an asset. So, that condemnation is just irrelevant.

Well said! It’s so hard for me to understand how so many on this board were so blinded to all her negatives! A player that undermines coaching plus plays lazy at times and terrible attitude is a negative. They could hire any coach and she would not change. She has lots of talent but even more baggage.

No, but I'd certainly put her up against Lawson, Bobbitt, Jolly, Marciniak, Head, or any other Lady Vol point guard you want to throw out there. The thing about turnovers is it's a very fixable problem with the right coaching. The skills and talent EW has, however, cannot be taught. What YOU conveniently leave out is how much she elevated the team around her with an insane number of assists given no offensive structure to work with and the very limited offensive skills of most of her teammates.

If Harper is the coach we all hope she is, it isn't unrealistic to think she could take a team with a core of Westbrook, Davis, Horston, and Green to the Final Four with the right draw. With EW gone, that chance goes to ZERO. But you in all your basketball intellect keep celebrating her departure...

It is well past time to move on from this! We all wish her the best. We have other recruits and current players to be worried about! EW is gone, so let’s move on. Here’s to hoping that her replacement is just as good and ready to roll with the #LadyVols.

I am tired of hearing y’all go back and forth about a player who has zero intentions on being with the LadyVols next year!

We're a week and a half into the long offseason. Westbrook's departure became official yesterday. With all due respect, ignore the thread or get over it...

So instead of giving another coach a chance to showcase her “potential” abilities she quits on the team and university. I can assure you someone will step up and make up for the points she gave us and hopefully not the Turnovers she gave us. Best of luck to her.
I won't say she quit but much of reality has changed since she committed.
She was the number two HS player urged to come to an elite program by another AA high school player who orchestrated the number one recruiting class of that year, to a team with two other Oregon AA players from the Oregon trail ( she was the fourth ).
Extra incentives was Diamond Deshield and
Tea Cooper .Oh Wow!
Envision in her mind the prospect of the final four or NC. I did . The nuclearus of this team.
Then all hell broke loose. Cooper dismissed.
Middleton transferred. Deshield decide to go overseas. Not a outstanding (chaotic) summer or even freshmen year( NCAA tourney a bust).Balloon is deflating slowly.
Nared and Russell leave. A piece of your
recruitment class dismissed. But you still
hang in here. Another highly ranked recruitment class arrives. Still there hopes.Trained with men's coach during the summer and looking good. Hope .
Season starts great over cupcakes and then
the balloon bust in the tough SEC conference and you realize
that a talented team with a talentless coach
in a legendary program cannot crack the first round of the NCAA tournament and staying
here can possibly damage your potentials
and future expectations (like others from the Oregon trail.Remember Reynolds).
The dream has become nightmarish. The balloon has bursted. Maybe it's time for a new change, dream and vision (her thoughts). No one who played under Holley
should ever be accused of quitting. They gave their all to a coach who killed many dreams and aspirations and shipwrecked a program builted by a legend.
They trusted in someone who didn't have a clue. Be blessed Ms.Westbrook and thanks .

Some good points but Mercedes and Jamie were seniors so they did not "leave" per se, implying an unexpected absence, but they graduated as planned and as Evina would have known.

The team has been snakebit on PGs, with the dismissal of Cooper and then Hayes. I suppose you could argue that Cooper and Hayes were "on Holly" for not maintaining sufficient discipline but is was the players who violated team rules to such a degree that they expelled from the University.

The Diamond domino falling after Cooper's dismal was a MAJOR blow though again many on this board celebrated her departure--NOW, we will be great because the "cancer" is gone; and not its deja vu all over again.

I do think having Hayes this season, as an experienced #2 PG and maybe even moving into the main PG at times, would have been asset; how much difference she could have made, we will never know.

So, now we are back to square one, with a freshman likely having to carry the main PG duties but at least Massengill is back to provide some experience at that position.

You left out the part where everyone on the board and the fans as a whole wanted her to stay. These kids really have a life of their own that they would like to live...you know..the same way you live your life the way you want to ! Just let these kids be who they are without someone who doesn't know them in any way make judgments about them. Just pretend they are one of your kids that everyone is trashing because of a decision that they made. Look at it that way and maybe you can just say.."good luck" and leave it at that !

Westbrook is not the missing link for a Final Four, sorry.

Some board members calling for the back and forth on Westbrook to end, but other board members continue to post and keep the thread alive. I had not posted in this thread for 24 hours, but four board members have quoted a post by me to Attack my opinion, and some facts, concerning Westbrook.

I would not have been as negative on Westbrook and her mama, if she has not Publicly called for the firing of her coach/coaches. Once she crossed that line there was no way she could remain on the team. UT is not the LA Lakers.

The Updated basketball roster is now available for viewing on utsports.com.

Please provide a link or documentation in which Westbrook publicly called for "coaches to be fired"; please note "changes need to be made in the staff" is not a public call for firing anyone so you must be (repeatedly) referring to some other event.

Thanks Captain Obvious, I hadn't noticed she didn't reach the Final Four her first two seasons. I never said EW coming back would guarantee an end to the Final Four drought, what I said is her departure all but guarantees they won't...
