Westbrook Gone

Some board members calling for the back and forth on Westbrook to end, but other board members continue to post and keep the thread alive. I had not posted in this thread for 24 hours, but four board members have quoted a post by me to Attack my opinion, and some facts, concerning Westbrook.

I would not have been as negative on Westbrook and her mama, if she has not Publicly called for the firing of her coach/coaches. Once she crossed that line there was no way she could remain on the team. UT is not the LA Lakers.

The Updated basketball roster is now available for viewing on utsports.com.

She didn’t call for anyone to be fired..... you guys are taking her words and creating what you “think” she meant..... when someone says changes with our staff it could be any number of things..... unless your there everyday around the program you have no idea what is going on and trying to guess what she meant is just ignorant on you and everyone else’s part...... Evina leaving is a big blow to our program and was by far and away our best player...... I hope and pray coach Harper can do something with this team or poor Jordan will be our new scapegoat (Evina) next year.

It is a big blow but if she didn’t wanna be here all her doing by staying was stop progression.

I wish her the best (and I’ll say it again have career games but everybody but us if the two should meet). But as good as she was she was the co-leading scorer as Rennia was the other one. Another poster put up Rennias stats and she topped more SEC categories than Westbrook. This is not to diminish what Evina did because we would have lost more games without her for sure. Again, wishing her the best and lots of success.

My hope is yes that Horston comes in and averages 4-5 assists per game but more so the returners make leaps coming back and try to absorb some of her production by committee. I think Mimi and Rae can have big jumps from freshman to sophomore years. Also, I think Coach Harper can apply better pressure with Horston her defensive instincts will benefit this team and she is super long and rangy. Horston, Burrell, Massengill, and Collins could be a problem with a press (and Zaays quickness).

Evina had far bigger impact that Rennia!
Hell, how many times did Evina set her up and many of her other teammates.

Thanks Captain Obvious, I hadn't noticed she didn't reach the Final Four her first two seasons. I never said EW coming back would guarantee an end to the Final Four drought, what I said is her departure all but guarantees they won't...

Not necessarily..... we have several good young players returning(if they all return) as well as the number 2 player in the country coming in

Lol that was her job and like I said my post isn’t to diminish her impact but I just think Davis would have been a big loss too if she had left. The previous poster said FAR AND AWAY the best player and I didn’t see a Candace or Chamique player on last year’s roster. They were FAR AND AWAY the best type of players that have been through this program. Catchings was that type of player. She was good and at sometimes very good but far and away I didn’t see because she was also inconsistent. Her contributions will certainly be missed but I think we can recover from her loss. Plus, her thriving somewhere else doesn’t mean LV failure.

Has anyone else noticed that Evina still has in her instagram “Tennessee wb” in her bio? If she was so intrigued not to stay, why would you keep that in your bio, fully knowing you were transferring?

I am actually perplexed to see her not stay. She would’ve really benefitted from another point guard coming in. I feel as if she could have even been a 2 guard with Jordan Horston coming in. Evina is an elite player, there’s no doubt. Holly Warlick just failed to utilize the skill set she had. I know many have deemed Evina with an attitude, but I do believe she really cared for this program. And I really think when she decided to come to Tennessee, she wanted to restore the program to excellence. It’s a shame she’d be the only one (that we know of) who has decided to move on. I was really hoping the team would convince her to stay.

I have a strong feeling that if she hadn’t come under such persistent, extreme, disturbing personal attack by fans and/or those merely pretending to be in order to foment discord, she’d be the happiest returning Lady Vol on the team right now.

I’m not the least bit surprised she’s not returning. Greatly disappointed, yes, but not surprised. In her shoes I might have made the same difficult decision.

Rumor has it that Evina is currently on a visit at UCONN. Apparently she was in Megan Walker’s Instagram story today.

I know, the drama ‘gasps’ Lol

No drama from me! So many Tennessee fans belittled her abilities, claiming that she was grossly over-rated and actively hoping she’d leave. So I would absolutely LOVE for her to get the opportunity to get the coaching she deserved so she can make all those people eat their words.

No offense, but if she chooses UCONN, I think it will be a mistake. UCONN is starting to slack off now. I would love to see Evina change her mind and stay with Tennessee, but I don’t think that’s possible now with all the media about her confirming with coach Kelly that she is gone.

You better check who they are signing......

Connecticut has been to the last, what, 14 Final Fours, and they’re “starting to slack off”?

When can our Lady Vols sign up for a ride on that train to “Slacking Off”-town?

UCONN has slacked off. Considering they won what, 4 championships in a row just s few years ago. Some crazy stat like that. They’ve been winless in the last 3 seasons, proving there is more parody in the women’s game, more than ever. South Carolina, Notre Dame, Baylor have all taken championships. So yes, I’m standing with my observation that UCONN is slacking. Making it the final fours isn’t enough for a program use to winning championships. All programs will fall to lows at some point. For me, that’s where we, Tennessee, are at. No, we’re not making final fours right now, but we’re recreating a new chapter. You can’t be on top all the time. The thing about Holly is that she took the program in a vulnerable state, and wasn’t able to prove herself as a head coach. Her sense of “I don’t know” really caught her in the fire in the end. It all starts with a coach, and everything else follows.

If she does transfer to UCONN, it’ll just be more motivation for the current ladyvols to beat them! #LVNation

Actually, I doubt the current Lady Vols would get much, if ANY, extra motivation to beat Connecticut simply because their former teammate had joined them. My guess is that when whatever team Evina plays for meets Tennessee, that the Lady Vols who were once her teammates will be glad to see her and, yes, probably still be feeling grateful to her for speaking up for the team on her way out. Of course the Lady Vols will want to win — they should want to beat EVERY opponent they face — but they won’t be playing hard just to get revenge on EW for moving on.

As far as anyone thinking, “But it’s UCONN!! That’s the worst thing she could do!” Well, my response to that is that, to older fans, that may be true. But kids these days weren’t a part of that bitter rivalry. They don’t even understand what in the world is wrong with the silly old fogeys who still hold decades-long grudges against one another.

Anyway, I could be completely wrong about all this, but my gut is usually right about these things.

I do get what you’re saying. If one believes that not winning the national championship EVERY year but only reaching the Final Four in those “off years” is evidence of slacking off, then I suppose it’s technically correct to say that Connecticut has slacked off. In my view, though, it takes a much more profound, sustained drop in program standing to rise to the level of being labeled as having “slacked off.”

Unfortunately, in recent years it’s my beloved Lady Vols that suffered the most dramatic slacking off. But I’m feeling really, Really, REALLY good about the future because I can feel in my bones that Tennessee’s climb back to elite status is already under way.

I’m on fire for this program again!

One test of this idea is what if the LVs had Uconn';s record of achievement over the last 10 years. If the LVs had been to (what 12? straight final fours but had not won the title over the last three, would we be proclaiming the team was "slacking off." I kinda doubt it.

Stanford is probably the better example of a program that has slipped a bit from its glory days and yes, the LVs when making it beyond the elite 8 suddenly became the teams insurmountable wall.

I would take Uconn's version of slacking....

Sure, they may TRY to understand. My dogs TRY to understand when I tell them every morning that “I don’t WANT to leave you, but I HAVE to leave you to go to work.” lol

But seriously, trying to get this team to truly understand, and then totally buy into, any 20-year-old feelings of intense rivalry she may still personally feel *might* work for Kellie, but it would be (IMO) risky to count on it.

Holly was right, to a certain extent, about one thing: Today’s players ARE different than they were 20 years ago. College students today do function differently than WE did. They have the ability to instantly access ANY type of information they want to see or read. We literally had to read PAPER BOOKS to get information. Most of today’s college students are nearly constantly, practically obsessively, giving and/or receiving instant feedback about nearly every single aspect of their lives, often on a minute-to-minute basis. And so they often feel like they have the world by the tail and that us old fogeys are just fools whose life gauges are stuck on stupid.

In some respects, they are right. In others, maybe a few more years of life experience will soften their opinions of us old farts. lol
