Westbrook Gone

Here is a reality that the old school Lady Vol fans are getting ready to learn. These kids never knew Pat. They have only heard of her. Most of these kids now parents knew her and thats it. They are not coming or staying to play for history, they are coming to play for a coach. The "blue hairs' mentality of limiting to a female or a Pat tree coach is gonna take us down a road that Vandy beats us every year. Cause thats where we are at this point folks. I have had alot of people talk to me about this coaching search. I will say this again. Its a cluster that is being pushed by boosters and it will end a cluster unless a change of course happens very soon.
Film at 11?

She knows KJH took a team to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 15 tries this season right...?

I wish EW the best, so sorry for her and all the players that they got caught up in the worst of LV times and were totally let down by the coaching staff. Hopefully the potential we saw in her can finally be developed and something of her career can be salvaged.

And man I hope Horston is an instant hoss b/c if the alternative at PG is Massingale, heaven help us.
This isn’t just any program. There is a sense of ownership by a lot of old guard establish figures due to the nature of how women’s athletics started and was controlled by them for decades. They also have a history of being huge pain in the asses.
Here we are at a turning point for the program. I am so curious how much actual power the famed and mythical blue hair old guard has, and I think we're about to find out. If this hire follows a strict female only rule, or even worse, a female from the Pat tree only rule, then they've won, and the program stays fair to middlin. Which I believe is actually OK with the hardcores, who by now are more interested in remaining a "beacon of female opportunity" than being an elite or even competitive program.

If we're never able to just hire the best coach available that best fits our needs at the time, it will be almost impossible to have a consistently top ten program. If we get lucky, we may have a circumstance where the best coach available when we need a hire happens to be a female and/or a former LV. Could have runs of success from time to time. But if we go into every hire with a piano on our back, the odds aren't very good.

I believe players could come to Tennessee for the history and brand and still have decent, modern, well-chosen coaching. What better way to memorialize Pat and the history than by being a competitive, lively, relevant program again? Ironic that the hardcore traditionalists who claim to guard Pat's legacy the most are ready to retire it as a museum piece of symbolism.

It is a little odd that EW didn't wait until we know who the new coach is and I wonder if that's because she knows the direction of the search is limited by the traditionalists. Wonder if she would have stayed if Walz was coming? Going to be hard to get kids to come and stay if their coach is chosen for gender and background rather than coaching ability. Legend of Holly is way too fresh for that.

I absolutely love to hear this.

I hope they hire Katelyn Jenner.

And if you say Im not a UT fan because I wont root for Pat Summitt's program then so be it.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I'd root for Al Qaeda first.

The title of this thread seems premature. This action could just be contingency planning--i.e., keeping all her options open until the new coach is named.

It certainly has provided a playground for the Evina bashers. I never seen a fan base so eager to turn on its players. Oh, Diamond, she has a pouty expression - I hate her! Oh Evina, gaspI she said there were problems on the team after the LVs were eliminated in the first round -- How dare she! I hate her!

Sad, sad, sad

In all honesty, this is what was expected to happen no matter what. Most assumed she was gone anyway. Now we are blaming it on the coaching search when we already expected it to happen. Hate to lose her but she needs to go where she is happy. Life is too short to be miserable playing a game.

Westbrook said what all the rest of the team was saying behind the scenes at the press conference. She was the only one strong enough to say it. She had full support of the team. Sorry I dont have a link for that info for you sticklers.

Well, you were wrong or at least VERY misinformed about basically everything when it came to the Walz deal, so no, your word isn't good enough.

Good job putting it out there that she's in the transfer portal. If she ends up staying, she'll still be labeled a quitter by many. I'm sure she's pumped that you put her business out there when the transfer portal is supposed to be confidential. Good job, good effort.

We, as fans owe her. If not for her comments about the staff, Fulmer likely would have retained Holly
Her interview allowed Fulmer to know that things could not be fixed & she had to go
I am grateful to her. Other players felt it but she came out & made it known
That is probably giving her more credit than she deserves... I doubt Phil would make such an important personnel decision based on the post game comments of a player.

I do not believe that the search for a women's head basketball coach is being guided by boosters. A booster is not going to have sway over the hiring of a non-revenue sport at an athletic department the size of the University of Tennessee. You come across as self important and preachy.

Bingo. There aren't boosters involved in this at all. They may call and opine, but to think their input is having an impact is just ignorant of the situation.

How does Raoul the poster on twitter know when people enter the transfer portal if it’s confidential and I didn’t know these things 😕

I think Westbrook was going to leave regardless if holly stayed or not. It could all be BS about Fulmer exploring all options, but I do believe he will hire the best person available. No one here really knows the budget for the next coach and staff.
I just wonder why she bothered to chime in on possible changes coming to the staff if she didn't plan to stick around to see them.

They also have a history of being huge pain in the asses. Philip Fulmers goal 1-2-3 is to fix football and he’s not about to let a brawl over the LV coach derail it. They will get what they want to keep them content.

No.

Because coaches at other programs leak them. There were 20+ football coaches in D1 that were sanctioned for leaking transfer portal information after the football season. It's sleazy.

Fulmer can make everyone happy next week by naming Tyler Summitt as the next LV Head Coach.
Breath, it is a joke

All I can say to Evina is bye!! I don’t believe her heart was fully in to playing for the Lady Vols, imo. She had flashes of good play but her body language was never really positive. Just like Deshields.

and rennia and a number of others

I respectfully disagree. I believe she was fully invested until she got thrown under the bus one too many times. She had many turnovers, one because she handles the ball more than anyone, but a lot of her passes were good on her end- our post players could not catch the ball or were not ready. She has great court vision and will go on to do very well on a team with more talent down low. We could have had her two more years and with good coaching could have been an AA.

Now I am not excusing the dribbles off her leg etc that she has had lately, but go back and watch her games when she carried this team against Texas and Stanford. In the Stanford loss she had 10 assists, 29 points and 4 turnovers and played 40 minutes. She kept us in the game against a team that just lost in the Elite 8. I’ll take that from her anyday considering she handles the ball on every possession. We lost by 10, 85-95. She was playing great basketball.

C. Green gave her all—she played limited minutes last year so she was really put in a tough position this year with high expectations. Remember she transferred in as basically a raw talent and hasn’t had 4 years to develop. But she did not always have the best hands. She was better when she rebounded and had put-backs. KK is a work in progress but she needs to work on her hands. She fumbles the ball and gets stripped often. But the blame was always on Westbrook, so yes, I respectfully disagree. I will miss her! JMHO

What a bunch of horse manure....... That girl has been a pain in the arse and coddled. She ran her mouth and whined and the national press noticed it. Whoever is hired was going to have to put their foot up his arse and I bet the AD is glad to see her go. She has a helicopter mouthy momma and a horrible work ethic and nobody can tell her hard head a darn thing. My opinion she feared the coming hard coachinmg she was about to experience. She crapped in her locker room and lacks the character to clean up her own mess.
