What are the best RB trios at Tennessee and how can the current trio compare?

Had it not been under such a shite coach, Hurd, kamara, Kelly good have truly been legendary.
2 of those 3 guys are still playing running back in the League. I think John Kelly is one of the most underrated players to ever set foot on campus . He gets overlooked bc of his $hit coach, the 4-8 season, Kamara being an NFL star and all the drama that surrounded Hurd. If someone competent had been running things Kelly and Kamara would’ve stayed in the backfield and Hurd would’ve been moved to wideout or tight end.

As the title says, name the top running back trios in Tennessee history (we've had some good ones) and where can this group of Wright, Samson and Small rank if they reach their full potential.
This group could be up there with the best as far as utilization of all three...I remember Garner, Stewart, Hayden was used alot and best trio that maybe was actually on the field alot...and with different skill sets. So pleased w/ this group, but I also wonder what it would look like if some of these trio's played in JH offense. What if Jamal, Henry, and Stephens played in JH offense...or Cobb/Webb?

Wasn't there another back-up to those 3 that transferred out and beasted somewhere else?

Edit: Found it. It was Onterrio Smith in 1999. He was actually kicked off the team and ended up rushing a for back to back 1k yard seasons for Oregon.
You can’t forget the whizzinator!

I know you said trio but I think Lewis, Henry, and Stephens is easily the best group, especially if Bryson counts as a RB/FB

Lewis, Henry, Stephens

Foster, Hardesty, Coker

Hurd, Kamara, Kelly

Before that I wouldn't be able to name a trio so I'll leave that to someone else.

I could see this group being comparable to the group from '06-'07. Wright has a chance to be very good.
I agree. Wright has to become a top RB nationally for his trio to get into those 3 groups. All 3 of those groups had 1 guy that we all knew would be a top level NFL RB. (Lewis, Foster, & Kamara)

End of thread…I don’t see how you could top that combination. Foster and Hardesty overlapped but I don’t remember the third.

We’ll see where the current group goes but I don’t see them catching Jamal, Travis, and Travis.
Throw in Bryson and that's the top group I ever saw

No love for the trio of Cedric Houston, Jabari Davis and Gerald Riggs Jr.? LOL.

Houston had a nice college career. I guess you would have to call the other two disappointments, but they came in with a ton of hype.

Who was the Full back we had in the late 90’s that played in the league for a long time?

Agreed. This isn’t close. Idk if we’ll ever see a trio like that again, BUT with recruiting picking up again it’s not a complete fantasy.

Highly doubtful, because while RB's used to be the guys getting paid in the NFL, the combination of the short career span for pro RB's and their marginalization by most organizations will result in more and more top HS athletes with NFL ambition playing the money positions - WR, Edge, TE, CB, LB.

You rarely see RB's getting drafted in the 1st round any more or making bank on the second contract, which is where the money gets real. Good teams know they can plug mid round backs in and replace them after their rookie deals. It's sad, but just the reality.

Shawn Bryson went on to have a very solid NFL career too. Absolutely loaded backfield
Shawn Bryson was the best all around offensive player on that team IMO. He blocked well, break away speed, and good receiver out of the backfield as well.
