what are the biggest what ifs in tennessee football history

Excellent rhetorical question/topic for discussion. My submission would be: what would the course of Tennessee football have been if Dickey had not responded to his alma mater’s call? Personally, I believe that he could have carved out a legacy comparable to Vince Dooley’s: 250 career victories, a half-dozen SEC titles and, perhaps, a national title or two. We almost certainly would not have experienced the dark days of the mid-late 1970s and early 1980s, and Dickey’s impact would have lessened the severity of Bear Bryant’s reign of terror in the 1970s.

Biggest what if without question. we were ranked #4 Bama was not. We are setting up for the winning field goal. It gets block rebounds 30 some yards and Bama sets up kick winning field goal. We lost 6-9. The kicker 2 teams ahead of us in the rankings loss. We could have come out of that game being #1 or #2. We may not have had CPF "if" we play for NC that year.

What if Kiffin had been at USC since the start?
(my guess is that USC would be the "kentucky" of the pac-12)

A second really big question. Let us suppose Doug Dickey or any other progressive-minded offensive coach had been hired two or three years earlier and Tennessee jettisons the single wing-offense during Steve Spurrier's high-school career. Does Spurrier still go to Florida or does he pick the University of Tennessee? If the latter is the case, what is the course of Tennessee football history if, in this parallel universe, he returns to his alma mater as he did at Florida?

Jamarcus Russell's fumble had been called on the game winning drive vs LSU.
The rain didn't come at the Swamp in 1995
Kevin Cobb for Memphis was called down during his KO return at Memphis in 1996

What if Neyland didn't like football?

Not as far back, but what if Steve Spurrier had gone to Tennessee instead of Florida and then became the head coach for the Vols during the 90s?

or

What if Phil Fulmer was fired after the 2005 season?

or

What if Peyton Manning was benched in favor of Brandon Stewart and then transfers?

what if we actually had the right number of players on the field during that LSU game a few years ago?
