What are your expectations now?

I intensely dislike but simultaneously respect UConn's women's basketball program. I don't particularly care one way or the other about the UConn fan base because I don't interact with them.

I love the Lady Vols. I positively despise the Tennessee fan base. They are a perfect storm of ignorance and entitlement. I have a lot of Lady Vols/Tennessee gear that I wear locally and to games, but I refuse to wear it elsewhere because I don't want others I encounter to assume I'm like some of the people who post here.

representative of the talent they put on the floor, the mood of the fan base might improve. If they keep playing the sloppy, error-prone basketball that we've seen for, oh, about 10 years now, the mood will get worse before it gets better. This year there is a chance--because of our serious talent--for some happiness: a chance, even with this staff. More generally, the issue is what kind of a coach should a program of this stature have? The answer is a top one. Unfortunately, PS wanted Warlick to have the job, and so here we are.

And it is MY opinion that CHW IS a top coach (not THE top coach in the game, maybe not one of the top 5 coaches in the game (yet), but certainly one of the top 10) and she is the right fit for the Tennessee program.

Here's the thing, Armchair. Do I trust Pat Summitt's assessment of who should have taken over the Lady Vols program, or do I go with the assessment of some armchair, wannabe coach who is most likely making these pronouncements from his food-stained, 30-year-old La-Z-Boy in the front-room of his momma's rusted-down single-wide trailer at the head of some Hawkins County "holler"? (Right or wrong, that's my image of you, armchair.) I'm going to go with Pat Summitt.

Bottom line, I intensely dislike a fairly large percentage of Tennessee fans, at least during game-time or game discussions. I love the Lady Vols, but the fan base in general is contaminated with every bad personality trait imaginable., and they give the university and its programs a bad name. When I travel to Richmond, D.C., New York, and/or Boston (I'm in one of those four places at least once a month, sometimes more), I wouldn't be caught dead in Tennessee gear. I simply don't want people to associate me with the hot, ignorant mess that is the Tennessee fan base.

I don't care for all the bickering on the board now but the above statement just rubs me the wrong way. I wear my colors all over this country and everywhere I go, someone shouts out a "how about them Vols" even if they are not a Tennessee fan. I have never had a bad moment except maybe in Alabama. With all your boasting and posturing in these last threads I would think you would take more pride in your team than this. :ermm:

Oh, but don't forget ... we are the bad fans, not Ivy. :jpshakehead:

I am proud of the team. I am not proud of a large percentage of the fans. And no, I will not wear Tennessee gear outside of the area.

You forget (or perhaps didn't know) that I am not a UT grad. It's not as if I am shunning my alma mater. I am a tremendous Lady Vols fan, and I own a lot of Lady Vols gear and some gear that is just germane to Tennessee. I wear it frequently when I am out and about locally. But no, I will not wear the gear outside of East Tennessee/Southwest Virginia. That is my prerogative.

I am not a "bad fan." I spend a tremendous amount of money in and around Knoxville. I would bet my collection of Tennessee/Lady Vols gear would rival that of any fan here. I go to as many games as possible, and I wear my gear at home. I will not wear it outside of the local area. I'm sorry if that offends, but I don't particularly give a damn. I think a large part of the fan base is embarrassing, and if you think people who aren't UT fans didn't know what was going on with Cuonzo Martin, for example, you need to think again. The Tennessee fan base has a bad reputation, and I don't want to have to explain that I'm "not one of those people." Locally, it doesn't matter so much. But I will not wear UT gear elsewhere. (I'm not fond of people assuming I'm a UT grad, either.)

No, I didn't forget anything. I know all about the diploma on your wall since you felt it necessary to tell us about it. Of course you can wear what you want where you want but no you are not proud of the team if you refuse to wear the gear elsewhere. That's what pride is. Letting others know who you stand with. The fanbase is not a few posters on a message board and by and large the fanbase is respected across the country as I said. It's disappointing you seem to think the majority of the fans are mobile mansion dwelling, toothless hicks. There are some of course, but not the majority. I guess I better go kick the dog out of my nasty old chair, grab a PBR, some smokes and watch some more BB today since that's what all us old Tennessee fans do. :shades:

Well, at least I'm not an Alabama or Kentucky fan. I wouldn't even wear that gear locally.

I do not wear UT gear when I am traveling for business or even when I am traveling for pleasure. To be honest, fan gear really isn't my style regardless. I wear UT gear to the games, of course, and sometimes when I'm out and about at home doing errands, etc. I don't wear it when I am traveling or at home if I'm doing anything other than running errands. Fan gear (be it Harvard gear, UT gear, or UVA gear (my partner is a UVA grad) ) is a bit too casual for my fashion tastes in anything other than very casual situations. If I were to wear fan gear out and about outside of the local area, I'd be more inclined to support my own alma mater.

Why such condescending comments toward your Tennessee "trailer-trash" neighbors? You have the stereo typical image of an East Tennessee/Southwest Virginia hillbilly down "Pat"...You must be freakin miserable living "among" us! I guess we all can't be educated, intelligent, cultured, Ivy League pillars of society. Some of us were blessed with the bonus of being "bred" in nearby West By God Virginia...where it was a common event to see a bare footed kid running around telling visitors that "my mommy married my uncle...but (head twitching violently) didn't affect me none...did affect me none."

It's not as if I am an outsider looking in. I was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. I know not everybody is a toothless hillbilly.

I'm assuming UT fans and Tennesseeans in general just don't jive with your personality very well. We are typically pretty friendly and welcoming ... and I'm sure that's not your style since you're a miserable ******* and all.

Please advise on what happened with Cuonzo, Holy One. I live 30 minutes from Knoxville and know several people personally who work within the UTAD. I doubt very seriously that you know more about the inside of the AD than I do, which is another reason you should STFU and stop acting like you know everything ... because I can assure you that you do not.

And BTW, I would actually have to value your opinion to actually be offended by it.

Fascinating. Now go ask your mommy for a cookie and pipe down.

It sounds as if the only miserable individual here is a certain little drama queen. Watching you froth at the mouth is entertaining, or course, but I wouldn't want you to get too worked up. (And you do realize I'm laughing at you, don't you, volcrazy89? You can issue the longest, head-spinning diatribe in the history of Volnation on why you consider me a "miserable *******," but at the end of the day, you are nothing more than a joke.) I don't know what connections you have to the UT AD and I don't particularly care. However, please be aware that you don't know who I am, either. Just some food for thought, little one.

While we should get better as the season rolls along, so will our opponents. I don't know how you could have watched the Penn State and Syracuse games and not thought that changes are necessary.

I agree that we will get better, but so should every team in the country. My expectation was that we would already be at full steam on opening night. After all, we were allowed to start practicing long before every other team in the country because of our trip to Italy. We also played several games in Italy (in addition to our preseason scrimmages) which our competitors did not. So my feeling is that we should be light years ahead of everyone else by now.

How can you reasonably expect any team to be full speed on opening night -- especially a relatively young team with one key player (DeShields) still suffering the effects of injury? The Italy games were a great experience, but the competition was overall very weak. To think the Lady Vols would be light years ahead of everyone else. . . no. The fact is, many of the top pre-season teams are not showcasing their best basketball right now -- Notre Dame, Ohio State, Baylor, Florida State, Louisville, and yes, Tennessee have all had less-than-outstanding early performances. South Carolina got lucky against Ohio State; had the game been played at Ohio State, I'm not entirely convinced SC would have won. Neither team looked like world beaters; far from it, in fact. I'm anxious to see how SC performs against UCLA today. I could see that game going either way. SC may blow UCLA out of the water, or they may lose. It's not out of the question, in my opinion, that SC falls today.

How I wish wish wish the "good fans" would stay on the Summitt where only precious talk is allowed and the "bad fans" could be here to discuss the reality of the LV declining fortunes due to a stuck-in-the-past, every thing looks like a nail staff that can't coach based on the skills of the players that are on the team now (Daedra Charles is not walking on that court) and now is also recruiting worse than in any time in the program's history. I love Elzy from her playing days but she never seemed to have much personality then, and she's the recruiting coordinator? I mean there is no comparison to DeMoss.

The staff can't coach? Okay, Skippy. Whatever you say. LOL

I assume you are going to be putting in your application to coach soon?

Hopefully a Final 4, with no more than 5 losses in the regular season: Norte Dame, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas (?), Kentucky (?).

Notre Dame and South Carolina are toss ups. I can see those games going either way; Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Tennessee are not playing their best ball right now. I believe UT will have an easier time beating Notre Dame than South Carolina, but the South Carolina game is at home. I think the advantage goes to UT both times, but there's really no predicting what will happen. If Diamond is healthy, UT definitely has the advantage. Tennessee should beat Stanford, Texas, and Kentucky. I think the wins agaiinst Stanford and Kentucky will be fairly easy. Texas shouldn't be a huge problem, either; the only thing that worries me about Texas is foul trouble and Diamond not playing her best ball. That game is a week away, so I'm not sure we can expect Diamond to be 100% by then; in fact, I'm positive she won't be. That's a bit concerning. Otherwise, the game is at home, and the team will have had almost a week off, not counting the Albany game, which should be an easy win.

I think we will beat Chattanooga Monday. The game is at TBA and that should be to our decided advantage. Also, there should be plenty of motivation to play hard because of last year. And, our team should be a lot better. Hope Holly coaches a decent game.

go find the thread of late November 2014 - Izzy hurt - game at Texas, LVs shoot 25% in first half and 50 second but Texas hist 60% second and wins easily.

" Burdick, and Mass can't shoot - if only we whine as a board they will do better. If you find the thread you can cut and paste the statements made by some of the regulars. and FYI Moore only played five minutes and some regular wanted to know why after her good start she was not playing more.

And several years before that the classic discussion on whether a boarder watching on television had better visibility and insight that the coaches on the floor.

There is the well worn story about inmates who had heard all the jokes and thus had them numbered. an inmate would stand and say "146" and everyone would laugh. then the new inmate tried and offered "294!" and nothing. The inmates razzed him "you just can't tell a joke."
