What are your odds on Cooper and Gerald playing Saturday

At this point does it effect the defensive strategy or scheme of an opponent if the center plays or not?
Foolish mortal! You believed the Hooker/Hyatt story. All along, the secret of Heuepel's system was center play! May's was the Secretary of the Army to Hooker's Field General.

Didn’t Raynoch Thompson have hernia surgery on a Monday and play five days later?
That's probably not very common, but yes, according to what I just found on Google he played the following week at Alabama. Can't say I blame him for giving it a try.

I haven't heard that much time before. Of course, all surgeries are different .... but from having had a hernia repaired in 2013, I don't know why it would take more than a month to return to normal activities. It really wasn't that big a deal.
I wonder if it has to do with the level of strain an O lineman has to put out. They may be afraid he will reinjure it playing on the line.

In both 2021 and 2022 the offense was noticeably better with Cooper at center. He missed some time in 2021 and the running game was definitely less effective.

Two thoughts:

If you want to recruit players who are headed to the NFL, you need an established track record of taking very good care of your players, and not exposing them to reinjury.

What are the chances that the pace of our offense has been slowed by the line blocking calls the center makes as plays change or defenses change at the line of scrimmage? For decades* there's been a saying that the center needs to be at least as smart as the quarterback.

* I think I first heard that from Bengals Coach Paul Brown, when he made Tennessee's Bob Johnson their first ever draft pick and the highest pick of a center since the 1930s.

Agreed....these "game time decisions" are blatant lying and they're stupid. If you're a "game time decision" 3 weeks in a row.....there's some trainers that need to be fired.
totally agree. I hate how he handles the injuries. Just be honest and say he's out x number of weeks. It's dumb just saying game time decision every week.

Cooper had a hernia surgery and we keep this stupid gamesmanship or lying about status every week. Get him healed and be honest about status, more important stuff than football, especially since we’re not sniffing the playoff or even the division this year. Hopefully this situation has taught our coaching staff a lesson about why you need an offensive line and to not be lazy in the portal and recruiting.
They got 2 OL out of the portal. They've recruited quite a few OL. What do you expect them to do? Get 5 out of the portal and consult a crystal ball?

The REAL issue here is why, after THREE YEARS, this staff doesnt have a viable option at center???? Im losing faith in this entire staff more and more. There is ZERO excuse not to have a capable 2 deep going into year 3. Especially with the portal.

Absolutely. The portal affords the opportunity to load & reload. BUT, you gotta be able to evaluate talent, and pay 'em .

think Cooper plays some just to check him out for next week. Mincey, since he is in trouble for the drug deal, its Hype's call on that one and he is unpredictable.

I see your point, it’s just that 2 is clearly not enough to be competitive. So yes, my expectation is that if they don’t fix this year, then they have to next year, when we lose more guys.

Might be a stupid take but no worse than people calling for Nico to start: play Nichols at center today. We already know Lane and Davis can’t cut the mustard.
