What changes would you make?

Serious answers please. Also anyone who is saying changes should not be made are delusional, you can think no one needs to be fired, but to say "just chill bro we need talent" is absolutely insane, of course we need talent, but that does not explain why we lost to Arkansas. The truth is our coaching is an issue, not having us prepared for nearly every SEC game this year, which is why we lost to a bad Arkansas team, that ultimately kept us out of the SEC Championship game, and gave us a road game at Ohio State in the CFP. We have consistently been bad on the road and in the first half of many games. In my opinion the reason for the struggle is not play calling to our strengths, player development especially on the OL, and player discipline committing the same penalties over and over, also why cant our DB's turn their head around when defending a pass?😕

Heupel has to either take over full control of play calling and the offense or he needs to modify his offense and bring in a coach that has total control.

For defense, it’s time to turnover the secondary and linebackers. I’m 1000% fine with Banks and Rodney.

We have a very favorable schedule next year where the floor is 9-3. I think it’s very likely we would be able to steal a win in Tuscaloosa or Gainesville….

Martinez would be gone. He has had more than enough time and his units have been consistently inadequate.
I’m not sure replacing Ellarbee is going to accomplish much. He hasn’t had much to work with, as the OL has been under-recruited, IMO. Keeping him might help with continuity and recruits look at that.
First thing I’m doing if I’m Heupel, though, is looking in the mirror. I’m the offensive “mind”, the driver of the offense, which is what Tennessee is known for. What are we doing now philosophically on offense vs what we were doing the last few years that brought us success? How have we (I) regressed with aggressive play calling that kept defenses guessing? What can we (I) do to mask deficiencies until they can be addressed through recruiting and portal? What were our toughest opponents (UGA, OSU) doing that wrecked our offense and put pressure on our defense to get us the ball back? How can we counter that?
Stuff like that is important when it comes to getting to the playoffs vs winning playoff games. Just my .02

Agree. I would rather get rid of Pope than Ellarbee. However, we need to make changes on offensive staff and philosophy, that is for sure.

Sorry you had me until you said the rest of the staff on the defensive side is good. Martinez is a horrible coach
Actually he is a good recruiter and a decent coach. The only way to replace him is with a great recruiter and good coach or a good recruiter and a great coach. They are very hard to find and very expensive, which is why he has not been replaced....every coach can't be 1m+

Btw since I am sure you know this already, so I am just educating others....what part of Gibson III and McCoy looked horrible this year? Remember Banks is primary in Safeties

There is a lot of legit criticism that can be made about some members of the coaching staff, but why the hell would you fire William Inge???? He is a highly respected coach and just had a damn good recruiting cycle.

#1. New DC: Tim Banks tries to play cover 4 all game and gives up easy plays underneath

#2. New OL Coach: no development

#3. New DB coach: no development

# 4. Go and get the best proven OTs and DTs in the portal

#5. Get an elite WR in the portal with game breaking speed, depending on who is available

Heupel calls the plays
So has he forgotten how to run an offense since Golesh left? I also don’t want to hear it’s because Hooker and Hyatt are gone. Because the offense looked fine against Clemson in 22 and Golesh was still with the team. That combined with the fact that Jayson Swain said Golesh called plays should tell you it wasn’t all Heupel in 22

I'm not a knowledgeable football person so someone can explain it to me. We need a different route tree for our receivers....if the defense plays 2 & 3 deep coverage, stop running 3 go routes and a 5 yard sideline curl. Could we run more crossing routes maybe? I saw a lot of deep routes last night and OSU had 4 or 5 DB's deeper than our receivers......

Change 1 would be to stop calling Huepel an offensive genius. We used to score on our first drive a high percentage of the time. I have not seen any genius in his work lately.

I don't know. Maybe show up for away games? Don't run out on the field shirtless and acting a fool then get embarrassed? Maybe run a slant or hit a TE every now and then. Just a few thoughts. Maybe change the culture IMO to more business and less BS.. That shouldn't sit well with anyone.

O line is awful

I would fire Elarbee. Martinez and perhaps Pope. The oline has been iffy every year with Elarbee. It's not going to change. Wr coach I'm concerned about but not entirely sold on getting rid of him just yet. Martinez has got to go, bottom line. Our dbs seem to regress every year they are under him. When we have a db that makes plays It's guaranteed that he was a transfer or freshman whom has yet to be tarnished by Martinez coaching.

I want to say we need a new OC, but I'm not sure much would really change with that. Either let the man ride or die on his own accord and let him call plays, or get a very respected offensive mind that Heupel will listen to and take into account his advice if he wants to call his own plays.
