What did Dooley do for three years?

Wait for what? Hunter and CP (Dooley's receivers) are doing perfectly fine so far in the NFL (can add M Rivera to that list as well). Dooley can be criticized for a lot of things but coaching offense and recruiting good receivers is the last thing you can criticize him for (unlike the new staff which does not have a clue on how to use offensive talent they inherited - our o-line was not recruited for spread). And if you can remember 2 years ago Dooley's receivers Hunter and D Rogers thrashed CBJ and our current best in America staff.

We don't need to remember when you keep blaring it out like the speakers during the Branch Davidian standoff :stop:

The past is the past everyone and spending time thinking about it is only going to waste time we could have been putting forth into helping the team we have now and the recruits we have coming in.

I agree that Kiffin and Dooley are both crap hires but they can't be laid at the feet of Dave Hart either. Hamilton screwed this football program over in a monumental way and if karma is real then he is in for one hell of a backlash someday.

That is all I am going to say about the subject.

Now let's get behind this team and support a coach who actually cares about this team and this university as a whole.

I agree I have repeated this way too many times :).
But I did not start this thread (or any other Dooley related thread) and unfortunately the IQ  on this board is such that even all my repeating of facts is apparently not enough to get through (trust me I would prefer it people would just remember exactly what happened and drop Dooley thrashing topic once and for all).

I think it's obvious why they left. There was so much noise and pressure building against Dooley that they saw he was not going to last much longer. In my opinion the Kentucky loss was the final nail - after that Dooley could no longer keep some assistants on board and the perception he was on hot seat killed the recruiting in his third year (I think he did an excellent job in his first 2 years - especially right after he joined he pulled in Hunter and D Rogers and he had very little time available). It was actually a miracle he was able to get CP on board when he was already on such hot seat (probably because CP was only going to do one year anywhere he went and he saw that offense with Bray throwing the ball a lot so figured he would be able to shine and get the spotlight - all worked out great for him).

I think your really close with this, but i just wonder if Dooley's attitude and antics had a little bit more to do with it than is publicly known.

I don't know which attitude and antics you are talking about as I found him to be a nice enough guy and early on he won me over with showing class and respect for UT traditions (people should go back and watch his first conference when he was introduced as coach and then be honest and say was that really all that much different from what Butch did)? However I do agree that majority of our fan base found his communications style and sense of humor and generally more white collar appearance (lawyer background) somehow objectionable (it's interesting however how that background started bothering fans after we started loosing and somehow did not come up that much early on). Anyhow, I thought he tried his best (recruited a lot of good players especially on offense, and even recruited excellent assistants - even Sal was initially exciting to the fans and it's hard to blame Dooley for thinking an assistant from Bama who coached all those linebackers in Bama/NFL could end up being so bad). Anyhow, things did not work out and and after 3 years it was time to move on.

What did Dooley do for three years?

1) Bought some orange pants

2) Studied a little WWII history

3) Lost to Kentucky

4) Lost to Vanderbilt

5) Got fired

dooley---maybe the worst coaching hire at ut in any sport in 30 years---even worse than clueless buzz peterson

I don't think Chaney gets a free pass. You can draw plays in the dirt with Bray, CP, and JH. As Bray and Worley might testify, some QB coaching might have gone a long way with them too.

But again - Dooley for not making him coach the QBs.

true, but last year's offensive numbers were still off the chain historically. imagine if d'arick would've been properly mentored, and stayed.

if butch had last year's talent, or if Wilcox stayed, we go 9-3 2012 worst case.

Dooley will go down as one of the worst coaches in CFB history. He's a lawyer.

Chaney was fine.

It certainly wasn't coach or recruit for needs.

It's been bothering me more on Georgia week. He wasn't a organizational manager. He wasn't a player's coach. He wasn't a football coach. Everyone says we have no talent and no depth. What did he do here?

If Kiffin was an atom bomb leaving radioactive decay in his wake, the Bamboo Farmer was the process of erosion. It doesnt look like it's doing much then one day, poof, the mountain is gone.

Forget Steve Spurrier. I think Vol fans have to strongly consider Vince and Barbara as the ultimate Vol Nemeses of the modern era.

Go Vols!

Dooley is gone!!!!!!!!!

Why can't you people let him stay gone!!!!??

people posting a bunch of stuff on message boards has no effect on "helping the team" or recruits.

You shouldn't subject yourself to this mess any longer. It really isn't worth your time to pull for this dumpster fire of a program any longer. Obviously Dooley was our one true savior and now he is gone. You should follow suit.

But...how will we smile?...ever again?
