Which is normal and fine to a certain extent. A program like UT u can't have that. Especially when u r competing against the best in the nation, and have a fan base expecting it now. Not enough time to be learning on the job at the level CBJ is having to, and the amount he is getting paid.

Lots of programs like TCU, Oregon, Stanford heck even USCjr were able to be built little by little and coaches could make mistakes. UT isn't one of those programs.

For me the learning curve is two fold. The competition is much better week to week, but the biggest piece is the media attention for 365 days a year. It is impossible to know how to handle it without experiencing it.

Butch Jones plays the media like a fiddle and has granted unprecedented amounts of access to practice, coaches, players, etc so far. If you really want to critique aspects of his coaching style, this is a weak place to start.

coordinated expansion on football complex...

got the benches on sideline in Neyland the same size (this was accomplished Sunday morning after last years Florida game)

things like that

Probably the best post in the thread.

My biggest concern with CBJ right now is his learning curve of what it takes to win championships in the SEC. He is an SEC neophyte both recruiting and coaching scheme. If he doesn't do this quick he won't be around to long.

I can't wrap my head around what you guys think is so bush league or neophyte about the No. 3 recruiting class in the country. Seriously, are we already that spoiled? Unlike Dooley, or even Kiffin, it's been proven at multiple stops that Coach Jones knows how to evaluate, recruit, and develop quality talent. Again, if you want to critique Coach's SEC chops, fire away. But going after his recruiting is not a good way to make your point.

I think he has done a decent job with it to this point, and it was not a critique of how he has handled the media or his coaching style...which are really two separate facets of the job.

Dooley had a losing record as a college football coach. Not many schools with the stature of Tennessee will hire someone like that. We lost three years Dooley got a lot richer we move on.

I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am that Barbara Dooley didn't go nuts when he was fired, I mean completely lose it the way we all assumed she would...I was so looking forward to that...I figured she'd end up hurting someone and Vince would have to pry her off of em...:)

Coaching style, whatever. I meant his entire philosophy when it comes to program management, but fair enough. If you meant in terms of the media pressure cooker that comes with having an SEC gig, then yeah, I can definitely understand that.

I don't think Chaney gets a free pass. You can draw plays in the dirt with Bray, CP, and JH. As Bray and Worley might testify, some QB coaching might have gone a long way with them too.

But again - Dooley for not making him coach the QBs.

Give me a break. Not only did Bray CP and JH work wonders, but our running game was very solid last year, a trend that continues this year. Chaney was probably the one bright spot on Dooley's staff and a big part of the reason we were competitive at all last year.

Maybe he had a tendency to throw on 3rd and short a bit too much, but I'd take Chaney back in a heartbeat.

I was terribly wrong about dooley(doesn't deserve caps);he is the perfect example of a corporate beaurocrat drawing a check(it's about compensation, not performance-Gordon Gecko).Glad Butch is here and the cracker ***** is gone.Translation, dooley did nothing.

3 years of collecting millions from ut and running the program further into the ground

Which is why our QB and recievers are taking the world by storm right now. Oh wait

Wait for what? Hunter and CP (Dooley's receivers) are doing perfectly fine so far in the NFL (can add M Rivera to that list as well). Dooley can be criticized for a lot of things but coaching offense and recruiting good receivers is the last thing you can criticize him for (unlike the new staff which does not have a clue on how to use offensive talent they inherited - our o-line was not recruited for spread). And if you can remember 2 years ago Dooley's receivers Hunter and D Rogers thrashed CBJ and our current best in America staff.
