Are those Air Fryers really good I watch them advertise with Emerald sometimes I think he is just trying to sell his cookbook
I have an oddball air fryer: an Instantpot Duo, so it’s basically a pressure cooker, but when I change the top and put the air fryer basket in the pressure cooker pot, it becomes a vertical air fryer.
“Air fryer” is a marketing term for what’s actually a countertop convection oven. It cooks by blowing very hot air around and through the food, so it uses minimal fats (cooking oil, etc.) and doesn’t heat the kitchen up, the way a full oven does.
So I love roasted potatoes, but not in July when we’re all wilting. 14 minutes in the air fryer at 400°, and boom, they’re done. I usually cook side vegs or maybe something like chicken thighs, but I’ve also cooked whole chickens - think grocery store rotisserie chickens when I use the rub. Heat up rolls, you name it. Food doesn’t get soggy.
They’re also good for fish and don’t stink up the house as much as fish in a skillet, but since mine’s vertical, not horizontal like a toaster oven, it doesn’t work so well. Unless you stand the fish upright, I suppose.
I got the Duo because I also wanted a pressure cooker, but I fight bitterly against giving up counter space, so I like the 2-in-1 nature of the thing. If I had more space, I’d have gotten a separate traditional air fryer. One advantage to the Duo (not sure if straight air fryers have this): I can sauté first and then switch to air fryer mode, which is handy.
Mine (air fryer lid shown on the pot, pressure cooker lid next to it):
