This was a much needed, good win. And it was more of the bounce back game that I had hoped with happen against TX but better late than never.
After another slow start (that problem needs to be fixed), they picked up on the good things they did against TX (defensive intensity and running a faster, more attach minded offense).
Given that, some questions need to be answered forward:
1. Was this JR's breakout game for the season or just a good night?
2. Can the LVs play with that level of defensive intensity game in and game out, particularly during the SEC and tournament sections. I think that is the big question mark.
3. Can they up their shooting %. During the run, where they closed the early gap on Stanford, they made shots; after they got even, they were not as consistent (with lots of empty trips up the floor) but the defense saved them. If this team does not start shooting better (and they were getting the shots they wanted in many cases), that will be a tough self-imposed wound to overcome.
4. Texas, a bigger and more physically imposing team than Stanford, was able to slow the LV offense down in the 4th quarter and take control. Can the LVs find ways to play up tempo, against teams that might control the boards in stretches?
5. Forcing turnovers was key to the LVs transition (and part of the answer to 4), can they continue to create turnovers, which is another key component of defensive intensity.
6. Not a question but Middleton had an impact against a quality foe, for the first team this season (her best games have been feasting on cupcakes). If she can build on this game (Like Jordan), that would be a huge boost to the teams chances for success.
7. Finally, did anyone listen to the interviews with Tara? If you did, don't complain about Holly's stammering; Tare said um, um, um, you know more than any actual words. Shockingly bad interview skills but a helluva of coaching record....
